We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bethany Dwyer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bethany below.
Bethany, appreciate you joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I am currently transitioning out of the profession of Equine Dentistry. I have spent 24 years in a predominately male dominated industry. While it has been a very rewarding experience on many levels; I am now watching young women take the lead in research and be viewed as a valuable asset worldwide. After hearing God’s call into a different type of work, I began to unpack the shifts and changes that had taken place in my profession. Women stepping into a powerful role, a legislative battle that ultimately resulted in a licensing program through the board of veterinary medical examiners and a massive amount of knowledge that has been gained about how we are able to maintain a horse’s mouth. What I realized to be true for me, partially in how I chose to run my business and in restrictions out of my control, I lacked the ability to run my business autonomously. It is a requirement for me personally, to have autonomy even in collaboration.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a mom to 4 wonderful children, keeper of the bees and owner & creator of The Crooked Mile and The Hive.
The Crooked Mile is an in-home retreat venue, a holistic sanctuary for immersive retreat and community collaborations. I have created space for people to come together in fellowship and support for one another as they become empowered to carry out THEIR calling. Here, I create and host programs for children and young adults to become fully immersed in experiences (hybrid homeschool and career consideration). I welcome facilitators and business owners to host their gatherings for the day or multi-night stay. I am honored to partner and assist others in my community, by creating space for their vision to come to life.
The Hive is a wellness space designed to nourish, empower and restore-emotionally, physically and spiritually. I desire for clients to “know thy self” and facilitate sessions with tools such as Raindrop Technique and NeuroAuricular. Both have the capacity to support clients working through stored emotions, which often manifest physically. I have created a collaborative space with other holistically aligned providers to assist clients in receiving their miracles.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
1st, honoring the call to step into My God gifts! 2nd, making the decision to come out of hiding, being fully seen and trusting that the community has been waiting for me to share my creations. 3rd, hiring a social media expert that has been able to convey through images, what it feels like to attend a retreat or receive a session with me!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I severed ties with the story that what I am here to offer the world required everyone else’s input. When I began sitting in observance of words shared with me, I realized the “limitations” spoken over my business were simply their own fears being voiced and a little bit of my doubt being reflected back to me. I required unlearning-playing small and confidently taking action when I know it is in alignment for me.
