Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eduardo Flores. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eduardo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I believe the best thing my parents ever did for themselves was separate. Both of my parents loved each other as far as I saw yet, if they would have stayed together we would be in a worse spot considering alcoholism was present. Sure it hurt growing up and seeing my single mother work multiple jobs, but she has found better things and it has allowed me a life where I can pursue my art within a house hold full of support. I understand now that we need to go through the fire to get out alive. I don’t really think I’d do anything creative if it wasn’t for going though the pain and now finding peace with it all and learning through the faults we experience often. My mother has certainly seen the odds against her as a single Latina mother of two boys, yet she has shown us that persistence in your dreams will get you as far as you are willing to take it.

Eduardo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name -D or better known as Eddie, I mostly do contemporary art and poetry. I call myself a creative because I do many creative things from producing music to sculpting, writing stories and poetry. I mainly draw and paint and lately I’ve drawn DJ’s as they are live and show them at the end of their set, but I’m most proud of some of my more recent paintings which depict religious figures such as Adam and Eve or La Virgen de Guadalupe. I don’t usually take commissions unless I really like the idea and see it as something I can work with and be happy, I usually just make things and if you like it then its yours. I have made album covers and have sold almost every piece I have created aside from drawings as i usually give those away. As of right now the only way to inquire about an artwork is through Instagram @whydoyoucareyo or through an email @ [email protected].
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Attachment. I have learned to hold onto things as I grew up because I felt everything would leave me. I have learned that people and things are only meant to be in your life for as long as they are in your life and detaching from the negativity and accepting it for what it is, is key to finding peace. I grew up with a single mother and although it was painful if it wasn’t for those trials and tribulations i wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today and that’s a good thing. I’m still learning to let go of things, but it’s a challenging path that leads to a happier life in my opinion. Detaching in a healthy manner through healthy outlets like creating art has done that for me.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The story of Levi Ponce is very inspirational as he was just a local who asked local store owners if he can paint their walls. I think if more businesses let artist paint their walls rather than paying companies to paint their walls a solid color we can eliminate graffiti a small amount and support local artists in their works by giving exposure
