We were lucky to catch up with Nico Arias recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nico, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I owe everything to my mom, María Fernanda. She believed in me even when things weren’t clear, bought me my first materials, my iPad, and gave me the chance to study art in the U.S. She’s worked so hard to give me everything, and I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
My grandpa Marcelo and my aunt Daniela have also been incredible pillars of support. Thanks to them — and especially my mom — I’ve had the opportunities I’ve had. They’re my biggest fans, and no matter where I go, I carry them with me. One day, I hope I can give back even a part of what they’ve given me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Nico Arias, an illustrator and storyteller with a deep love for creating meaningful stories. I specialize in comics, concept art and storyboards, and I’m currently working as an art teacher and storyboard artist for an upcoming film.
What sets me apart is my versatility — I can move seamlessly from funny cartoons to epic superhero comics, all the way to dark, gory horror. I bring passion, fresh ideas, a strong work ethic, and a drawing quality that delivers every time.
More than anything, I care about making art that has heart. I want every project I touch to feel personal and full of soul — not just content for content’s sake. Art changed my life. Since I took the leap to pursue this path, I’ve grown so much as a person and as an artist, and I’m proud of the journey.
My goal is simple: to create stories and visuals that connect with people. Whether you’re a client or a fan, I want to give you work that feels passionate, unique, and alive.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
A few days ago I heard someone say “non-artist work so they can stop working, artists work so they can have the money to never stop working” I feel like even thought it might be harder to be an artist, I wouldn’t have it any other way. yes it can be stressful at times but this gives me life. specially when doing a project that aligns with the things i like. the only reason of why we artist charge money is because we need to pay rent and eat hahah, but if those things would be covered for us, we would still work and wouldn’t mind doing it for free because we LOVE what we do.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One video is probably the reason I took the leap of faith and quit university so I can go become an artist and it was an interview on YouTube of an artist called Jorge Jimenez. the video is called “Visionaries featuring Jorge Jiménez”. Jorge is a comic artist for DC comics. he is probably the biggest comic artist today and when he started talking about his backstory he had a very similar story to mine, he also was in university in his 20’s he started drawing again and decided to switch his career. the fact that the biggest artist of DC in today’s world had a similar story and started as some people would say “late”, made me realize that I still could do it, I can also become the next big thing.
so Jorge, if you are reading this… thank you, a lot.
