We recently connected with Kyah Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyah, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was support me. When I think of kindness, I think of a characteristic of pure and genuine intent. Putting myself out there has allowed me to build a platform; in which people have come to who support me. I am always grateful for those who take precious time out their lives to appreciate mine. Prioritizing people who look forward to seeing you has to be one of the warmest feelings ever. I think it’s nice when people remind you that you’ve given then a safe space and opportunity for them to discover some form of self-love.
What matters to me the most are the authenticity of my platform. I prefer quality over quantity. That quality of people are the reason I look forward to the work I do.

Kyah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who are not familiar with me or the work that I do, this is the perfect chance to get to know me. I am currently a Fashion Specialist and a certified Content Strategist. As a fashion specialist, my role is to helps individuals or brands refine their style and/or image through fashion and clothing items. On the clock, I offer personalized advice on dressing, accessorizing, and shopping. When working with brands, I conduct closet audits, create lookbooks, and coordinate fittings. I also strategize ideas/projects with many brands to help enhance their social media presence.
It definitely wasn’t easy to get a job in such a competitive field, but through dedication and consistency; I presented with such an amazing opportunity. One of my first internships was a 6-month program, where I worked with Fashion Brand CIDER as Brand Strategist Intern. During this internship, I got to work behind the scenes and see how CIDER developed strategies to increase the brand’s awareness. I worked closely with the marketing, advertising, creative, and sales teams to ensure consistent branding efforts and achieve common goals. Something that set me apart from others, the reason I was accepted into their internship program, was during that time, I was orginally a brand ambassador for CIDER and spent many times promoting their clothing on my social media platforms. The team trusted me with developing ideas and curating content ideas for their social media team. I was able to gain experience on the inside and out. This internship was not easy, but no job ever is. Upon completing it, I was offered more internships from different brands and companies. This is where my experience began to grow.
There are many aspects when it comes to working in fashion. Whether it’s wholesale, retail, marketing, content production, brand ambassador etc., I am proud to say that I’ve gotten a chance to work every single aspect of it. What started off as an internship, left off as me finding the love and joy for this profession. I have earned the job title a Fashion Specialist along with a full-time as a Fashion Specialist and Content Strategist.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When you are inspired by someone or something, you want to show it off to others, and that was me with fashion. There is this K-pop Idol I was so inspired by, and I mean INSPIRED, that I just wanted to present myself the way he did. I loved the way his he wore and styled his outfits, in which he made me realize fashion was a part of the confidence I could use in my life. My platform was built on being a Kpop fan and loving fashion. Many people could relate to either on of those things and sometimes both. As I began to buy more fashion pieces, I started to post videos showcasing my stylings and my journey to becoming this person who was so comfortable in her skin, no matter what she wore, she will always walk with confidence.
Many of my audience generated from me being my most authentic self. I was a person people could relate to, talk to, or see themselves in. The audience comes with the journey.
For those who want to build a social media presence, know yourself before you are put in a position where other people can form their own idea about you.
You don’t want anyone to define you before you can define yourself, because definitions are written by the person you ask. Having that sense of self and individuality plays a massive role in presenting yourself to people who has no idea who you are. And I say this because there are going to be people who try to diminish your character or say you’re someone you’re not. If you have no sense of self, what people say will break you. However, if you know yourself, what other people think or say about you won’t even cross your mind, because nobody knows you like you know yourself, and that’s the strongest form of self-love and individuality.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I like to think of myself as a biophile, a person who loves life itself and that’s what’s driving my creative journey. There are so many things one person can do and so many people one person can meet. To be inspired by life is to look forward to the people you meet, who can unlock a creativity in you that you didn’t know was there.
