We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jean Park. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jean below.
Hi Jean, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I’ve always felt that I was born to write—like it was my destiny. Somehow, I’ve been surrounded by strange and unusual stories my whole life. Ever since I was young, I loved listening to the fascinating things people around me would say. I’d take those stories, twist them around in my head, and turn them into something new.
For instance, I’ve known quite a few people who claim to see ghosts—friends, even some of my students. I’ve often used their eerie experiences as inspiration for my own stories. Whenever I came across something interesting in the news or a newspaper article, I’d jot it down to use later.
In the end, I think I’ve always been someone who pays close attention to what’s happening around me and listens carefully to others. That curiosity and awareness have helped me create stories that are fun, strange, and a little magical.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m a writer who focuses on ghost stories and supernatural fiction, often inspired by real events—either things I’ve experienced myself or eerie stories shared by people close to me.
Growing up, I was surrounded by people who claimed they had seen ghosts—friends, students, even family members. Their stories always stayed with me. I wasn’t just fascinated by the idea of ghosts; I was drawn to the emotions behind the encounters—fear, sadness, longing. I started to imagine the invisible world that might exist beside our own, and those ideas slowly grew into the stories I write today.
My work explores the quiet tension between the known and the unknown. I like to write about ordinary people in everyday situations who find themselves touched by something unexplainable. Whether it’s a haunted house, a lingering spirit, or an unexplained presence, I always try to ground the supernatural in real, human experiences.
Often, my stories begin with a small detail from real life—a strange coincidence, a personal memory, or something someone once told me in passing. I collect those fragments and let them evolve into something deeper—stories that are atmospheric, emotionally resonant, and just unsettling enough to stay with the reader long after they finish.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t write horror just to scare. I try to write ghost stories that linger—that echo something real about grief, guilt, love, or the things we leave unsaid. I want my readers to feel something beyond fear—to recognize themselves in the silence between the words.
If you enjoy ghost stories that are both haunting and heartfelt, I invite you to step into my world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely. I was born and raised in South Korea and spent most of my life there before moving to the United States about nine years ago. Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of seeing my name on the screen in a Hollywood movie theater. That vision stayed with me as I grew older, and it became one of the key reasons I chose to immigrate to the U.S.
My creative journey has always been guided by a desire to share emotional and haunting stories inspired by real life. I often write about things I’ve experienced or stories I’ve heard from others. I believe storytelling can be a powerful way to connect people, especially when the emotions behind the story are genuine and deeply felt.
Recently, I earned a nursing degree. It might seem unrelated to writing at first, but studying nursing helped me understand people on a deeper level—their fears, their struggles, and their strength. That understanding has helped me create more realistic and compassionate characters. In many ways, both writing and nursing have taught me how important it is to truly see and listen to others.
My goal is to continue telling stories that move people and to one day see my work come to life on the big screen, just like I dreamed of when I was young.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Last year, I began sharing a few original ghost stories on a platform called Threads. It was my first time publicly posting serialized stories, and to my surprise, the very first post went viral, reaching over a million views. From there, things grew quickly. My stories started gaining more and more traction, and within just a few months, I was seeing over ten million views per month.
I believe a big part of this growth came from word of mouth. Readers who resonated with my stories started recommending them to their friends and communities. That organic support meant everything to me. I didn’t have a large following when I started, but the emotional connection people felt with the stories helped them spread naturally.
More than numbers, what really helped build my reputation was consistency and honesty. I stayed true to my voice and focused on telling stories that felt personal and real, even when they dealt with the supernatural. That authenticity seemed to resonate with readers, and I’m grateful for how they’ve embraced my work.
