We were lucky to catch up with Lala Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lala, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Behind The Lenz 202 was born from Lala’s own journey in the modeling industry—one filled with both triumphs and trials. As a professional model who carved her path through major fashion shows, editorial shoots, and brand campaigns, Lala experienced firsthand the lack of genuine support and development opportunities for emerging talent, especially for models who didn’t fit the industry’s narrow mold.
Lala saw how many aspiring models struggled with confidence, lacked access to proper training, or didn’t know where to begin. She remembered what it felt like to be overlooked, misunderstood, or unprepared—and decided to be the change she wished existed when she started out.
With Behind The Lenz 202, Lala created a space that goes beyond the surface. It’s not just about walking the runway—it’s about walking in purpose. Every workshop, coaching session, and runway moment is rooted in empowerment, professionalism, and self-expression. Lala’s goal is to not only teach the craft of modeling, but to help each individual uncover their inner power, find their unique voice, and enter the fashion world with confidence and clarity.
Behind The Lenz 202 isn’t just a program—it’s a movement to build strong, skilled, and self-assured models from the inside out.

Lala, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Lala, and I’m a professional model, creative director, and the founder of Behind The Lenz 202—a model development and runway coaching program created to empower the next generation of talent. My journey into the fashion industry didn’t start with connections or a clear roadmap—it started with a dream, resilience, and the fire to break through barriers.
I began modeling over four years ago, walking in some of the most respected shows like SBFW NYFW Spring 2022, Unieke Mode NYFW Spring 2023, and Indie Fashion Week Cycle 13. I’ve been blessed to grace the pages of Imirage Magazine, 6X Magazine,Voyage Magazine Baltimore, and most recently the cover of Untold Magazine , but none of it came easy. I had to learn a lot on my own—how to move, how to build my brand, how to navigate a world that often overlooks those who don’t fit the “standard.” That experience shaped not only my career but my mission.
That’s what inspired Behind The Lenz 202. It’s not just about teaching runway walks and posing—it’s about building confidence, creating access, and offering mentorship to those who need it most. Whether you’re new to modeling or looking to refine your skills, we offer a range of services: runway coaching, portfolio development, creative direction for shoots, brand-building workshops, and personalized guidance. We also provide curated opportunities for live fashion shows, photo shoots, and networking with professionals in the industry.
What sets us apart? We center the model. We focus on mindset, representation, and transformation—not just looks or labels. I make sure every person who comes through our program feels seen, supported, and celebrated. This is a safe space for growth, where aspiring models learn not only how to command the runway but how to move with purpose in every aspect of their lives.
I’m most proud of the lives I’ve been able to impact—watching people walk away taller, bolder, and more connected to who they truly are. That’s why I do this. Behind The Lenz 202 is more than a brand. It’s a movement dedicated to rewriting the narrative of what it means to be a model.
To anyone reading this: if you’ve ever felt like the industry didn’t have a place for you, this is your place. Let’s build, shine, and break every boundary—together.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There was a time early in my career when I was told I was “too short” for the runway. I remember showing up to a casting, fully prepared and confident, only to be dismissed without even walking. It crushed me—but it didn’t break me. Instead of giving up, I poured that rejection into my walk, my presence, and my brand. I kept showing up. I trained harder, booked gigs that aligned with my vision, and eventually walked runways I was once told I wasn’t built for.
That experience taught me that resilience isn’t about forcing yourself into spaces where you’re not valued—it’s about creating your own space and showing the world why you belong. Now, I use Behind The Lenz 202 to help others do the same.

Any advice for managing a team?
1. Lead with Purpose and Passion
Your energy sets the tone. When your team sees your passion and understands the bigger vision, they’re more likely to feel inspired and aligned. Be clear about your “why” and remind your team how their work connects to the mission.
2. Communicate Clearly and Often
Open communication builds trust. Set expectations early, give regular updates, and invite feedback. Listen just as much as you speak—especially when it comes to their ideas or concerns.
3. Recognize and Celebrate Wins
From big achievements to small steps forward, celebrating your team keeps morale high. Shout them out during meetings, highlight them on social media, or send a personal thank-you message. People stay motivated when they feel seen and appreciated.
4. Empower, Don’t Micromanage
Trust your team to do what they were brought on to do. Give them ownership, room to be creative, and space to grow. Offer support when needed, but let them shine in their roles.
5. Create a Safe and Supportive Culture
Make sure your team knows it’s okay to speak up, make mistakes, and learn. Foster a space where respect, inclusivity, and support are non-negotiable.
6. Keep the Vibe High
Team morale is often about the energy. Start meetings with a positive check-in, play music during set-ups, or plan a fun group outing when the work is done. A little fun goes a long way.
7. Check In Individually
Everyone on your team has different needs and motivations. Take the time to check in one-on-one when you can. Ask how they’re feeling, what they need, or what they’re excited about.
8. Be Consistent and Fair
Nothing kills morale faster than favoritism or confusion. Be consistent in your standards, keep your word, and treat everyone with the same level of respect and professionalism.
