We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ADEOLA ODUTOLA. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ADEOLA below.
ADEOLA, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always been fascinated with fashion. The start of my business was a result of trying to style myself, but having problems finding garments that fit my frame how I wanted them to. When I was able to create an avenue to design things and have a say on how clothes would actually fit, I had to jump at the opportunity. I took the chance and never looked back!
Well honestly I didn’t know this would work. I felt if it didn’t work I’m in love with fashion so much I would have been content with designing clothes that I only wore. I truly get excited when I’ve created something from scratch and seeing what ways I can own it and make it my own. Fashion gives a person a way to express themselves through what they wear. If you look good you feel good and that’s a fact. So not only do I get to make myself and others looks good, I get to make people feel good in the process and that’s the most rewarding thing for me.
Well there are other brands that make clothing so no I don’t think I was solving a problem that has not been solved before, but I was creating a way for people like myself that always wanted to create something that they may not have been able to find in stores and online.
The idea of having a brand and knowing each day I have an opportunity to grow it. I think this is what brings me the most excitement. Not only that, I get to see how I make my clients feel on some of the biggest days of their lives! To know that I’ve played a role in that gives me joy. It truly keeps me going and motivates me to continue creating!
ADEOLA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Crown of Wealth provides a contemporary African sensibility to tailoring. With a variety of carefully selected textiles and materials, we consider with you what works best for your customizable needs, ultimately creating sustainable and reliable garments to last for years. This environmentally-conscious choice to clothing, measured and made to your specificities of use, is for you to treasure and express your style.
Born with a natural affinity for culture, fashion, and luxury suiting. I have always had enthusiasm for suits in my university days, and was influenced by the observation of my big sister’s creative outlets and content community.
With the backing of my family and colleagues, especially my wife, who pushed me to pursue the tailoring culture, I was able to bring my vision to fruition. Designing the perfect garment using premier material that enhances the appearance and expresses the personality of the wearer, capitalizes on my values, passion, and deep understanding of custom-tailoring has distinguished him in the industry.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Sometimes its good to start over. I have spent months on a project just knowing it was the right direction, and with guidance from my support gave me the understanding to start from scratch. the release of my first streetwear collection was and example of this. working on something for so long and having to start back at the beginning to create something even better.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I have found using social media as the best source to get my brand exposure. While social media outlets are free there are a lot of opportunities to take advantage of these markets.
