Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Batman Of San Antonio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi The Batman of San Antonio , thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I always loved Halloween, and going beyond a regular costume, so cosplay was with me early on. I always loved the idea of becoming a character, someone different from myself.
I wasn’t sure if acting was something that would be in my future, but I knew that I always wanted to be creative and dress up. I had a fairly successful career and retail sales, but never truly felt fulfilled. After a life-changing experience, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my days helping others and putting my dream to the forefront.
Cosplay was still relatively new at that time, but if I could have really gotten into it much younger in life, I can only imagine all of the people that I could’ve helped so much sooner. Don’t get me wrong. I love the fact that I’m able to visit with children, whether it is at schools, or hospitals, or special, private appearances, but I wonder how many more beautiful experiences I could’ve had if I had started 10 years earlier than I actually did.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those that don’t know me, I am a cosplayer, and I go by the name the Batman of San Antonio.
Obviously, I dress up like Batman, and people can hire me to do birthday parties, or go speak at school events, or show up for fundraising functions.
When people hear the name, Batman of San Antonio, they assume that the only character that I portrait is Batman, and the only movies I care for our DC Comics movies. The truth is I cosplay as many different characters from Star Wars, to Marvel characters, The Grinch, and I’m proud to say that I make many of the suits that I wear myself, and armor pieces. I have been fabricating for about 10 years, and it is something that brings me a lot of joy.
A lot of the work I do is actually free of charge, and I do it because I believe that everybody deserves the chance to see cosplay heroes and not have to go to a comic book convention. People do hire me for birthday parties, but if there is ever a financial bind that the parents are in. I have no problem doing appearances for free., And I give discounts to service members to teachers, to nonprofit organizations.
When people think of a cosplayer, they typically think of someone who dresses up in a costume, charges to take photos, and that’s about it.
With me, yes, I do dress up, and I love to visit with people and take photos, but I also do tutorials on how to make things how to age or distress items, I love to have interaction with my fans, whether it be on Facebook or Instagram, I really like getting to know the followers of my page or my fans, and have a really solid back-and-forth relationship with them.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do, and being creative are the ties that you make with people. Sometimes you build beautiful relationships that last for years, even decades.
I have a very special young man, by the name of Dom, and I have done birthday parties for him every year since he was six years old, and this year, in 2025 he turns 18.
I have shared every birthday with him without fail, even through Covid.
I’ve seen so many kids grow up, and have been blessed to be part of their lives, and get to know their families. This is the exact reason why I do this.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I’ve seen a lot of people and spoken to a lot of people who don’t understand why I do what I do.
My only answer is the fact that I love what I do.
When I have an idea for a costume and it’s just floating around my head and I can actually bring it to life, that is an amazing feeling.
You literally start off with just a thought,
and then you make a template, and you transfer that to craft foam or material and you agonize and you research and you keep going at it more and more, and then when you take a step back, you see that you’ve created something and it looks exactly like it did in your head.
There is something so magical about that.
