We recently connected with Lori Britton and have shared our conversation below.
Lori, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
My clients are very special to me and over the years, I have developed great relationships with them as if they are family. I feel it is important to make each one feel appreciated and special, remembering their names and details about their loved ones and their lives.
Everyday, I make it a point to go the extra mile to show clients that I appreciate them and how important they are to me.
One recent example is the funeral of a close friend that meant very much to me over the years. I was asked to create the flowers for the service and took extra time and care to design many floral arrangements that I felt would be extra special for them and to their liking as a tribute to them. I have done many such tributes and display them on my website, each with its own specific design, tailored specifically to honor that particular person.
In addition, I develop a relationship with every bride that I work with and go above and beyond to create the most beautiful, unique design that will make them feel that much more special on their treasured day.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Lori Britton, the owner/operator of A Wildflower Florist, is an award winning floral designer,
dedicated to bringing customers’ floral visions to life with her unique artistic design. A Wildflower
has been honored to serve the Carson Valleym Reno-Tahoe and surrounding areas for over 34 years with
beauty and love.
A Wildflower is known for being innovative and unique, and is a leader in the floral industry.
The shop has been voted “Best Floral Shop” for 26+ years and has served and worked
closely with all venues in Northern Nevada. Lori’s artistic talents have achieved many awards
including the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year Award and she
was twice awarded Woman Entrepreneur of the Year. Her unique design was awarded and
featured in Fleurvana Magazine in 2023, and she is an Accredited Member of the prestigious
American Institute of Floral Designers, AIFD.
Lori’s business has diversified greatly over time as the floral industry has changed
tremendously. When she began her business in 1991, the use of computers was very new, with
no access yet to the internet or websites, and a very limited ability to order and supply flowers.
With her perseverance, continued education, innovation and hard work, A Wildflower has evolved into a very successful
business, growing and embracing technology and with now unlimited sources and types of
flowers, Lori’s creations available to the people of Carson Valley, Reno-Tahoe and surrounding areas are
limitless.
Lori is dedicated to, and passionate about the community. Her unique style and artistic design
has not only brought such beauty to the Carson Valley and beyond, but she is also proud that
her ability has transformed, inspired, and influenced other designers and the industry as a
whole. On the national stage, Lori has been a Rose Bowl Parade designer and was honored to
be invited to be a part of the team of floral designers for the inauguration ceremony of our 43rd
President, George W. Bush, among other achievements and accolades.
Lori Britton is truly honored to have been embraced, supported and recognized by her
community and will continue to bring her love and passion for flowers to the people of the
Carson Valley and beyond.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I firmly believe in the ‘Golden Rule”. If you treat people with love and respect, it will come back to you. Maya Angelou is famous for saying, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” There is so much truth to that. I have found that if you truly develop relationships with clients and give them the utmost respect, going above and beyond to create beautiful arrangements for them and make them and their families feel special, it will come back to you in spades.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I started in the floral industry in 1991, things were very different. At that time, the internet and computers were very new and not used in the industry, so the types of flowers, the supply as well as the way flowers were ordered was very limited and the way of doing business was very different back then..
I needed to adapt as times changed and with perseverance, continued education, innovation and hard work, I was able to turn A Wildflower into a very successful business, growing and embracing technology. Now with unlimited sources and types of flowers available, I am able to create a limitless variety of arrangements for my clients.
On the national stage, I have been honored to have been chosen to be a Rose Bowl Parade designer as well as be invited to be a part of the team of floral designers for the inauguration ceremony of our 43rd President, George W. Bush. Amazing!
