We recently connected with Wes Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Wes , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Our story starts as a golf-loving family. I’ve been golfing for over 15 years and my almost 7 year old daughter has had a club in her hands since her third birthday.
Golf has always been more than a game to us — it’s been a way to spend time together, to slow down, to laugh, and to create memories that matter. Somewhere along the way, I started noticing how golf brings people together in a really unique way. It’s competitive, sure, but it’s also social, relaxed, and even meditative.
Then, a few summers ago, we went to a wedding that had lawn games for entertainment. They were fun, but they didn’t really draw people in. I remember thinking, what if you could bring a truly interactive experience — something elevated, playful, and elegant — to an event like this? What if you could take the spirit of golf, and miniaturize it for weddings, corporate parties, and city festivals in a way that felt bespoke?
That’s where the seed for our business was planted. I started sketching out hole designs, thinking about portability, theming, and how the experience could be more than just a novelty — it could be a true highlight of the event.
From there, things clicked. I realized there was a gap in the market: lots of party rentals, lots of corporate event services — but not many that offered something tactile, unique, and fun for all ages. I also knew that if we designed our courses with intention and quality, people would feel the difference.
There was logic behind the leap too. I had a background in building design and logistics, so building and transporting a portable experience felt within reach. I studied the events industry, talked to planners, and tested the idea at a few small gatherings. The response was immediate and enthusiastic. That’s when I knew this could be more than a passion project — it could be a business.
But more than anything, it just felt right. It allowed me to merge creativity, craftsmanship, and connection — all rooted in something I’ve loved since the beginning.
Now, every time I set up a course, I see people light up with curiosity and joy. That’s when I know we’re doing something worthwhile.

Wes , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who have not heard of us before my name is Wes Harris. Founder of Acewood Events. However, my wife and daughter are just as involved and invested as I am as this is a family run small business.
That is what I am most proud of.
Our portable mini golf rental is different than what you may find from a simple google search. These designs are not like the colorful plastic or cheap prebuilt putt putt you can purchase online.
When it comes to building our courses, Each hole is meticulously designed with expert craft and care that is fun and entertaining for mini golf enthusiasts of all ages. We spare no expense using professional putting turf for the look and feel of actual grass. Industrial grade quality lumber is finely sanded by hand to ensure safety and elegance before we finish off with our rich dark walnut stain. All this to guarantee a beautiful upscale feel for any occasion.
More than anything, I want potential clients and followers to know that Acewood Events is about more than just mini golf — it’s about creating meaningful experiences. We’re not simply setting up a game; we’re setting the stage for connection, conversation, and shared joy.
Whether it’s a newly married couple laughing over a missed putt, coworkers breaking the ice during a company retreat, or kids playing alongside their grandparents at a festival — those are the moments we live for.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new clients has actually come from something pretty simple: getting out in the community and letting people experience what we do firsthand. We’ve found that hosting free pop-up events at local breweries, parks, and community spaces has been incredibly effective — not just for exposure, but for building genuine interest and trust.
It’s also a great way to showcase how our setups fit into different spaces — whether it’s a wide-open park or a cozy beer garden. That helps potential clients visualize how it could work at their wedding venue, corporate event, or festival.
Plus, the word-of-mouth from these events has been huge. People snap photos, tag us on social media, and tell their friends — and we’ve had multiple bookings come directly from someone who just happened to stumble across us on a Saturday afternoon.
At the end of the day, our product is visual and experiential — so the more opportunities we create for people to see it in action, the more our calendar fills up.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of running a family-run small business is seeing our personal values reflected in the work we do — and watching it make a real impact on people’s lives. There’s something deeply fulfilling about building something from the ground up, with your own hands and your own vision, and then sharing it with the community in a way that brings people joy.
