We recently connected with Jesus Torres and have shared our conversation below.
Jesus , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
One of the most amazing things about what I do for living, isn’t just delivering a service. For me, it is more about constructing my clients’ confidence, inside and out. Helping them feel more powerful, beautiful & secure about themselves is what I thrive the most.
Constantly, I come across scenarios where I met new clients; and at times they’re in search of a new hairdresser that helps them love their hair again. This at times requires to recover their hair’s integrity or simply modify their haircolor, so it meets their expectations.
These experiences are truly what I live for, as a hairdresser. The simple fact of being able to help someone through their personal image, it’s the most regarding feeling for me. I’ve felt it numerous times, where more than gaining new clients, I gain trust, love & respect towards me and my career. Every single time a client walks out of my salon loving their hair results, I want them to feel appreciated and fully taken care of.
Jesus , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hairdressing was always my passion, I knew this at a very early age. Finally after college, I decided to pursue my career and enrolled myself in the Aveda Institute of Dallas. I’ve been in this career now for about 8 years. In March 5th of 2017, I branched out on my own and became the owner of Icon Hair Studio in North Dallas. This was definitely a very risky/scary dream I had. However, even today I’m still amazed at the growth my business has received. I personally feel like my clients are able to perceive the attention, and all the input I offer them to make sure their expectations are highly met.
Is it hard work? Of course it is! BUT the positive feedback I receive from my clientele, it’s what keeps me going and keeps me loving what I do for living, daily.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
From my personal journey, there was a time where I had to pivot in my career as a hairstylist, and that was exactly about 5 years ago. I was working for a large salon, where I was very satisfied, performing what I love to do for living.
However, there was poor management that eventually made me feel like my growth limit had already been reached out.
This somehow made my daily routine very monotonous and sadly I started having second thoughts about being a hairstylist, even.
So this was when I started brainstorming and shifting gears towards making plans to open my very own Hair Studio. This was definitely supposed to be part of my journey, as I’m in a very more content & stable place in life and in my career.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There is definitely a perfect example of resilience, right as we all experienced lockdown due to the pandemic, in March of 2020. This was without a doubt a scary time when it came to trying to keep my business open. Two months with no income coming in, definitely started putting my business at risk.
However, I can’t be grateful enough towards my clientele.
Between early gift cards purchasing from them & driving around town delivering hair products at their doors, kept me afloat to stay standing until I was able to re-open doors again, in May 2020.
This was definitely an act of kindness I will forever keep with me, that showed so much affection and support to my and my business.
