We were lucky to catch up with Weedalys Matute recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Weedalys, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

For my daughter’s first birthday, I really wanted a Peppa Pig mascot to make an appearance, mostly for photos and a meet-and-greet. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any local options, and the only company that had one was a two-hour drive away. After hitting several dead ends, I decided to purchase a Peppa Pig mascot online and have a family member wear it.

Once the party was over, I was left with the dilemma of what to do with the bulky Peppa Pig and George mascots. They were taking up a significant amount of space in our small apartment. A friend suggested renting them out on Facebook Marketplace, so I gave it a try. Within hours of posting, I received numerous inquiries, and the very next day, I had my first booking.

The demand didn’t stop there; people started asking if I had other characters. It was then I realized there was a real market for this in my area. So, using the earnings from the rentals, I began to slowly acquire different costumes. After renting out the costumes for a while, I thought, ‘Why not offer a complete party package with entertainment as well?’ And that’s how Miabella Party started. Since then, we’ve expanded significantly to include other party services like balloon decorations, mobile food cart, party favors, photo booth, and much more.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I launched Miabella Party after recognizing a significant local demand for party services. Initially, I focused on purchasing and renting character costumes, gradually expanding to include entertainment. Today, Miabella Party is a comprehensive, one-stop shop for all party needs. Our services range from character appearances and balloon decorations to snack cart, photo booth, party favors, and more.

To offer our clients an even more inclusive experience, we’ve also partnered with other talented women-owned businesses in the area. Through these collaborations, we can seamlessly integrate services like face painting, piñatas, bounce house rentals, and table/chair rentals into our packages. I believe this approach significantly simplifies the party planning process for our clients, eliminating the stress of coordinating with multiple vendors. My primary goal is to provide a seamless and stress-free birthday planning experience.

I’m incredibly proud of Miabella Party’s growth and expansion – it’s truly amazing to see how far we’ve come. Under the Miabella Party umbrella, we now proudly operate San Antonio Luxe Party Decor, Daly’s Design, Antojitos by MBP, and Creating Memories by MBP. My unwavering commitment to providing the best possible service has always been, and continues to be, the driving force behind our success.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

A good reputation is built through consistent efforts to provide quality products and services, excellent customer service, and a proactive approach to managing online presence. Focusing on these areas have lead to positive reviews, customer loyalty, and ultimately, a stronger reputation within the market.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.

Miabella Party began as a side hustle, born from my desire to contribute financially to our household. As a stay-at-home mom to a child with special needs, I felt a pull to do more, even though my husband was our primary provider. Having worked my entire adult life, the transition to full-time motherhood, while incredibly rewarding, also left me missing the independence of earning my own income.

This longing, combined with the flexibility I needed to care for my daughter, prompted me to take a leap and try starting a business. To this day, I thank God that it worked out and continues to grow. Miabella Party has allowed me the immense privilege of raising my daughter, being present for every important milestone, and taking her to therapies and medical appointments without compromise. I am deeply grateful for this business and the profound positive impact it has had on our family.
