We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Hoilett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
I work closely with creative coaches, consultants and service providers who sell online courses, programs, and services. And I’d say one of the biggest profitability challenges in this industry is Messaging – AKA figuring out exactly who you help, how you help them, and the specific outcome you deliver.
This problem shows up in all sorts of ways – including being nervous about niching down, having an unclear offer or USP, or having wishy-washy copy that doesn’t boldly communicate the power of working with them.
I see this all the time. Coaches and consultants pour their heart into their offers, but their messaging is a blur. They’ll say things like, “I help women live their best lives” or “I empower entrepreneurs to reach their goals.”
That sounds nice, but it’s not enough to cut through the noise online – and your perfect-match clients keep scrolling by.
A story: I once worked with a coach who had all the right pieces – a killer program, great testimonials, and a mission she was passionate about – but her messaging was too broad and high-level. So we got to work and got specific on who she served, the result she delivers, and how her approach would get her clients better results.
Once we tightened up her message, she started seeing more interest, engagement, and sales come through – because her messaging was finally clear, specific, and compelling.
Clear, specific messaging isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s really the difference between struggling to stand out and becoming the go-to expert in your space.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey there! I’m Samantha Hoilett – a launch copywriter, messaging strategist, and creative dreamer originally from Washington, DC.
I always loved to write – and before I quit my job – I was in charge of writing company newsletters, promoting conference events, and drafting reports. I’ve al
Back in 2018, I took a massive leap of faith, quit my 9-to-5, and when my husband got an incredible job offer to move to Uganda – I thought why not say yes to a new beginning. But It wasn’t all sunrises over the Nile and carefree laptop days.
I was starting from zip, zero, nada…and my first projects rolled through at a whopping $0.03/word. Most people might be discouraged – but for me it was a breakthrough. I was like wow…someone just PAID ME for my work. And where there’s one, there’s 100 more. So I kept going. I think this is the type of spirit you need to start and grow a business.
And after spending more time online looking for clients – I found an incredible community of creative entrepreneurs, coaches, and passionate business owners who care about making a difference. And now – they’re the community of clients I love to serve and show up for.
Since then, I’ve supported hundreds of clients to clarify their sales messaging, attract perfect-fit clients, and confidently sell their signature offers. Many of my clients have gone on to raise their prices, double their sales, and build businesses that are as bold and unique as they are.
My approach is all about capturing the magic in your brand, cutting through the noise, and writing copy that stands out – without the hype, fluff, or icky sales tactics. I want your messaging to feel as bold and powerful on the page as it does in your head.
When I’m not writing, you can find me globetrotting, binging reality TV (love a good Survivor season), or planning my next adventure – because I love to travel.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started with Instagram – and honestly, one of the first things I did was block my family and friends. 😂 Not because I don’t love them, but because I needed the creative space to get started without feeling self-conscious.
From there, I focused on the process, not the result. Building an audience is really about building a habit. When you show up consistently, you get better, faster – and the followers, engagement, and sales start to follow. But it all starts with just posting, even when it feels messy or awkward.
I also started paying attention to what content people were actually engaging with. If I saw a post like “10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Visiting Japan,” I’d ask myself – okay, what’s the version of that I can create for my audience? Maybe it’s “10 Things I Wish Business Owners Knew Before Selling an Online Course.” It doesn’t have to be your exact niche to spark an idea.
And of course – as a copywriter – my biggest advice is to focus on your audience. Get crystal clear on who you want to speak to and create content that’s interesting, relatable, and helpful for them. That’s how you build a community that actually wants to hear what you have to say.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I like to keep the connection going long after our first project wraps. I follow my clients on Instagram, cheer them on, and celebrate their wins. It’s a simple way to stay in their world and show that I’m genuinely invested in their success.
I also check in more formally about six months later – just to see how things are going, hear about their progress, and find out how I can best support them as their business grows.
And honestly, I try to treat my entire Instagram community like valued clients. I answer questions, share tips, run free or low-ticket workshops, and provide feedback whenever I can. I want to give people a real reason to stick around – not just for the content, but for the connection.
