Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to AngelDust. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi AngelDust, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Growing up, I studied my oldest brother while he was in his creative mode. Watching and listening to him singing, the artists he kept in rotation, the song choices, the instruments he played, and seeing that light flow through him it inspired me all at the age 5. I recall singing, “The World’s Greatest” after music class in kindergarten confidently out loud as if no one was around and boy oh boy did I get snatched right back up to the music room by the music teacher to sing along with the piano haha! Peace, clarity, content, and calmness filled my body and I knew in that moment, this is who I want to be- one with music.
AngelDust, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! I’m Angel, musically known as AngelDust. I’m R&B singer-songwriter from the city, CLE that is! Music has always been a special part of me ever since. My brother was such a major influence on me. Creatively, he did it all. Singing, writing, being such a skilled musician- I was just so in awe of him. This led me to participate in choirs in church and in school. I went on to being apart of local Cleveland music group, CNC back in 2015. It started off with harmonies, backing vocals and vocal arrangements until I realized I want to explore more being a solo artist. I’ve achieved many things thus far on my journey that I’m thankful for. Receiving opportunities to write for artists in the industry, touring, collaborating and sharing my talent has been top tier moments for me. I learned with all that I do, discipline and awareness were traits I needed to keep going. It’s beautiful to share your talents with the world, but at what cost if you aren’t practicing? Studying? Sharpening your ear? Staying clear of things that aren’t in alignment with your mission? God gave us talents and skill sets according for a reason. It’s up to us to maintain these wonderful skills and steering clear of things that aren’t contributing to them.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s something about people expressing to you how your music makes them feel, how your music fits whatever mood they’re in and the “it’s on repeat, right now” that gets me going! It’s a goal of mine to make music that’s timeless, freeing that helps others feel good, so it’s rewarding to be reaffirmed of my mission through my listeners!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Trust God, trust yourself. If anything or anyone starts to feel out of alignment with you, trust that feeling and move accordingly. That feeling is there for a reason. You were blessed with discernment for a reason. Staying present in a situation business wise and/or personal will cause more delays and setbacks. Some of which you may not be able to bounce back from. Opportunities will be there, the people you are suppose to surrounded by will be there. You have to trust the process and the revelations that were given to you to move accordingly!
