We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Garcia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Joseph, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
Family businesses offer a unique blend of trust, legacy, and long-term vision that can be difficult to replicate in other organizational structures. When family members share a common purpose and commitment, decision-making can be more cohesive, and values tend to be deeply embedded in the company culture. There’s also a natural motivation to preserve and grow something that has generational significance.Would I want my children to join the business? Potentially, but not by default. I believe they should pursue their own interests and develop their own sense of purpose. If that journey leads them back to the family business with genuine passion and fresh ideas, I would gladly welcome their involvement. The key is that they earn their roles and feel invested—not obligated.
I’ve seen both success and struggle in family-run operations. One memorable example involved a father and son passionately debating pricing strategies in a meeting, only to reconcile over lunch like nothing happened. That moment, to me, captured both the complexity and strength of family businesses—where deep bonds and shared goals can drive both conflict and innovation.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a family owned and operated roofing company. My father started in the industry 20+ years ago and during Covid decided to go on his own and asked me to help start this company by getting my roofing license. We provide free estimates and anything that your roof needs. Whether it’s repairs or full replacements of the roof. What I think sets us apart is the fact that we are willing to provide the best care for our clients beyond the services we provide. We want all our clients to feel like family.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
How we put the initial capital together was a little unorthodox. We sold the family car to buy our first truck and my dad took all the savings he had to build this company from the ground up. We had no help from outsiders, no loans, just a few thousand dollars and a dream.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A quick story would be during the first year that we got started. It was in the middle of Covid and of course a roof was the last of peoples worries. With all this we didn’t give up we wrapped our truck, printed business cards, and went old fashioned. Boots on the ground. Took pointers from my dad and his strategies from back in the day and we rolled with it. We were knocking on doors, passing business cards out, and driving all day just to put our name out there.
