We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jonathan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I didn’t recognize it as a risk at first. It felt more like a natural unfolding — a calling, really. But looking back, what I did was nothing short of life-altering.
The seed was planted long before I knew what it would become. I grew up witnessing family members silently battle chronic illnesses and deteriorating health. Their struggles sparked something in me — not fear, but curiosity. Why were so many people sick? Could nature hold the answers? I started small, making shifts in my own life: I exercised more consistently, paid close attention to what I was putting in my body, and began studying herbs and natural remedies. What started as personal wellness soon became something much bigger.
Word got around. Friends, family, and even acquaintances started reaching out for advice. What tea should I drink for inflammation? What herbs help with fatigue? I never intended to be anyone’s go-to wellness guide, but I leaned into it. It felt purposeful.
Then, Colombia entered the picture.
As an avid traveler, I’d visited many places, but Colombia was different. Medellín — with its lush mountains, vibrant people, and rhythmic pace — felt like home. It awakened a vision in me that I couldn’t shake: a space where wellness and culture could meet. A juice and wellness bar. Not just a storefront, but a sanctuary. A place where people could recover, recharge, and reconnect with themselves using the healing power of nature.
Starting Secreto Jardin in a foreign country, with different laws, a new language, and no safety net, was the biggest risk I never saw coming. I invested my time, energy, and finances into something that hadn’t been done quite this way before. There were days I doubted myself. Days I wondered if I had made a huge mistake. But I kept going.
And it worked.
Today, Secreto Jardin is more than a juice bar — it’s a wellness refuge for locals, travelers, and partygoers in Medellín who are ready to treat their bodies with care. We serve cold-pressed juices, herbal remedies, oxygen therapy, and most of all, hope.
“Sometimes the risk you’re most afraid to take is the one that leads you to your purpose. I didn’t just open a juice bar — I opened a door to healing, for myself and others.” — Jonathan Adams
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jonathan Adams. I’m a professional deejay by trade, but my journey into the health and wellness space began with something deeply personal — a desire to protect and preserve my own health.
As someone constantly on the move, performing at events, and navigating late nights, I realized early on that I had to be intentional about how I cared for my body. That journey sparked a deeper interest in natural healing. I began researching herbs, exploring holistic practices, and eventually traveling the world to discover what different cultures used to stay well.
That’s how Secreto Jardin was born — a wellness bar in Medellín, Colombia that offers cold-pressed juices and rare international herbs. We go beyond the mainstream by sourcing plants and roots from around the globe, many of which aren’t commonly found in everyday health stores. The problems we help solve range from fatigue and inflammation to immune support and post-party recovery. What makes us different is that we provide solutions that feel both ancient and new — traditional remedies delivered in a fresh, modern space.
But Secreto Jardin isn’t just about products. It’s a vibe. People walk into our space and they feel something shift. It’s calming, energizing, and magnetic all at once. We’ve created an environment where people don’t just come for a juice — they come for the experience, the community, and the healing energy.
What I’m most proud of is offering people hope and natural alternatives when they feel stuck or unheard in their health journey. I want the world to know that healing does exist — and it’s rooted in the earth.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my journey came during the early stages of building Secreto Jardin in Medellín. Starting a business in a foreign country came with more challenges than I could have imagined — language barriers, unfamiliar legal requirements, and delays in getting the proper permits and sourcing specific herbs from across the globe. There were moments when I questioned if I had made a mistake, especially when weeks passed with little to no progress. But I stayed committed to the vision. I adapted, asked questions, built local relationships, and refused to let obstacles break my momentum. Every challenge forced me to become more resourceful and grounded in my purpose. Secreto Jardin exists today because I kept showing up, even when it was uncomfortable, uncertain, and inconvenient. That’s what resilience looks like to me — doing the hard thing anyway.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Aside from training and knowledge, I believe success in the wellness industry depends on three key factors: having a strong team, access to the right resources, and financial support. A dedicated team helps bring the vision to life and keep operations running smoothly. Investors provide the capital needed to grow, expand, and scale impact. And most importantly, having access to reliable knowledge and high-quality sources for herbs ensures we can consistently offer powerful, effective products that truly help people heal.
