We recently connected with Stefani Timmermeyer and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stefani, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The way I show my clients how much I appreciate them is by consistently showing up—fully present, genuinely listening, and making sure they feel truly noticed. It’s not about a single moment, but the commitment to do this every time—month after month, year after year. As a stylist, I get the privilege of building deep relationships, and the greatest way I can honor that is by giving my full attention to each person in my chair, every single appointment.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I opened Coloroom to create a space where talented stylists could build thriving, fulfilling careers—and where clients walk out feeling like the best version of themselves. We’re not just in the business of great hair (though you’ll definitely get that); we’re in the business of lifting people up, inside and out.
What makes us different is the energy in the room—supportive, down-to-earth, and genuinely joyful. We take our time to be great listeners because we love helping people express who they are through their haircut and color. Plus, our guests enjoy this wrapped up in the luxury experience you’d expect from an Aveda salon, (you just can’t beat an amazing scalp massage!). At the end of the day, we’re here to make people feel amazing and ready to get back out in the world to share their light.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
In my experience, the best way to raise capital is to start before you officially start. Offer your services, build a client base, know your market and industry —then use that traction to prove your concept. When we opened Coloroom, we put in some of our own money, got a small loan from a friend, and used the data we’d gathered to put together a solid business plan. That’s what helped us secure a bank loan.
If I could do one thing differently, it’d be sticking to our gut on how much working capital we really needed. The bank kept asking us to trim that number, and we agreed—but it made things tighter than they should’ve been and delayed our ability to pay ourselves as owners. We knew what kind of buffer we needed to launch with confidence, and next time, I’d fight harder to keep it in the plan.

Have you ever had to pivot?
My path has been full of pivoting! I didn’t set out to open a salon from scratch while raising three young kids, or to redesign the entire structure of my business within the first few years. But every unexpected turn has shaped something stronger, more intentional, and more aligned with who I’m meant to be.
Pivoting, to me, isn’t just a reaction—it’s a skill. It’s the ability to meet change with clarity and courage. To stop chasing what everyone else is doing and instead get really clear on who you are, what you do well, and what you feel fulfilled doing. Then, focus every bit of your energy on becoming the boldest, most authentic version of that. That is how you will do great things. That is how you will fulfill your calling and build an amazing business, no matter where the pivots of life take you.
