Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittney Lugo-Soto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
The day I got my first client was completely unexpected. I woke up to a random Instagram notification from someone I’d never met, asking if she could book a nail appointment. I was both excited and shocked up until then, I’d only practiced on friends and family.
I agreed right away and told her I could take her that same day. As soon as she arrived, the nerves hit me. I was a complete wreck on the inside, but I did my best to stay calm and professional. Once I started the service, my hands found their rhythm, and I slowly settled into it.
To my surprise, not only did she love the final look she told me I exceeded her expectations. She also mentioned that I was her first-ever private nail tech, which made the moment even more special. Since then, she’s become a loyal client and a genuine friend.
That first experience reminded me that taking a chance and pushing past fear can lead to something amazing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello lovelies! I’m Brittney, and I’ve been a nail tech for over 6 amazing years. I got into the nail world because I’ve always been obsessed with creativity, colors, and the little details that make something truly unique. What started as me playing around with nail designs for fun quickly turned into a full-blown passion and eventually a business that brings me so much joy every single day.
I offer a wide variety of services including gel manicures, acrylics, gel- x, natural nail care, pedicures, and custom nail art (which is my absolute favorite!). Whether it’s a clean, minimal look or a bold, intricate design, I’m all about helping my clients express their personal style through their nails. I’m also really focused on nail health, so I make sure that everything I do helps my clients feel good and look good.
The thing that sets me apart? Definitely my energy and attention to detail! I’m super passionate about creating a fun, relaxing, and judgment-free zone where clients feel like they can be themselves. I love building real relationships. Some of my clients have been with me for years, and they feel more like friends at this point! I want everyone who sits in my chair to walk away feeling refreshed, confident, and to love their nails.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. From doing nails at home to running a successful business and building a loyal client base. I’ve poured my heart and soul into my craft, it means the world to me when people trust me with their nail inspo.
To anyone thinking about booking with me or following my journey, welcome! I’m all about creativity, care, and making beauty feel fun and personal. I can’t wait to show you what we can create together!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The two biggest game changers for growing my clientele have definitely been word of mouth and social media! There’s just something special about a happy client telling their friends, family, or even strangers, “Let me show you my nail tech!” That kind of trust and personal recommendation is priceless. I always aim to give every client not just beautiful nails, but a positive experience they’ll want to share.
Platforms like Instagram and tik tok have helped me showcase my work, connect with new people, and really let my personality shine through. I love sharing photos and videos of my nail designs, behind-the-scenes moments, and little bits of my day-to-day life in the salon. It gives potential clients a feel for what I’m all about before they even book.
The combo of great service, real relationships, and an online presence that reflects who I am has really helped me grow naturally and I’m so grateful for it!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My biggest advice? Just be yourself and show up for your business even when you don’t think people are watching, they are. I can’t tell you how many times someone booked with me and said, “I’ve been following your page for months!” even though they had never liked or commented on a single post. It reminded me that consistency matters so much.
When I started, I didn’t have a huge following or fancy equipment I just posted my work, shared my personality, and stayed true to myself. Little by little, people started noticing. Social media can feel intimidating at first, but once you stop trying to be “perfect” and just show up as you, that’s when the real connections happen.
Stay consistent, be yourself, share what makes you passionate, and remember your dream clients are watching, even if you can’t see them yet.
