Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Khamel Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Khamel , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project to me is a rather interesting story. I met a couple through a mutual friend, they were planning a destination wedding in Mexico and booked me for their photography and videography. This was my first big wedding gig, so I was excited, but also nervous at the same time. As time past the couple welcomed a new addition to the family, which of course prompted a change of plan, to a venue in their home state of Connecticut. I have never been to Connecticut, and it was only fitting that my first trip there be my introduction into the wedding industry. As the date arrived, on Mother’s Day Weekend, my wife and I Traveled to Connecticut for the wedding, from the moment we touched down I had a good feeling. The day of the wedding I drove to the venue early to gather drone footage for the video, the venue was amazing. A little later the wedding party began to arrive, I captured photos and my wife captured most of the video footage. The vin and atmosphere of everyone in attendance was contagious, the family vibe was not only present, but I felt like I was a part of it. I enjoyed every minute of the day, but the most meaningful part was the couple trusting me with their special day and truly making me feel like family.
Khamel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Name is Khamel Carter of Carter Made Media. I entered the wedding industry after shooting events periodically, and was booked for a wedding somewhat last minute for a photographer that cancelled. At that moment I had never shot a wedding, but I knew the importance of the day. When shooting a wedding I aim to not only capture the feeling of the day, my goal is to tell a story through my pictures and videos. I make sure my clients are focused on their day and understand the I am just behind the scenes capturing every beautiful moment as possible. The thing that sets me apart from others is my flexibility, I put my clients first so whatever they need, or however I can accommodate them I try my best. I’m most proud of how I have scaled my business from 1-2 wedding to now 8 booked so far.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My very first wedding, I shot both photo and video by myself. I of course had first time jitters, but didn’t necessarily understand the time and pressure that went into a whole wedding day, as a vendor. I shot photos and video throughout the event and didn’t wrap up until nearly midnight. I took various pictures and would switch to video in between moments, exhausted was an understatement for me that day. I edited the pictures and created a recap video of the day and the couple loved my work, from that day forward I knew that this was what I was called to do.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients is word of mouth for me. A lot of my clients recommend me to friends and family a lot, who then go to my Instagram, where I attract their friends and family from posts and reposts.
