We recently connected with Sandra Ventura-Benitez and have shared our conversation below.
Sandra, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve been very fortunate to be surrounded by family, teachers, mentors, and community members who supported and nurtured my creativity from a young age. I can’t say there was a single “aha” moment when I knew I wanted to pursue photography professionally—it was more like a series of small affirmations over time, moments that reminded me I felt alive when I was creating.
Art has always been part of my life—and I know that might sound cliché—but it’s the truth. Growing up, I was always drawing, crafting, or experimenting. Whenever someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d answer without hesitation: “An art teacher, an artist, a photographer—something with art. It has to be art.”
So, while I can’t point to one defining moment, I’ve always known I wanted to live a creative life. I didn’t know what shape it would take until I started holding a camera and saw the visual impact of capturing stories. That’s when it all began to make sense.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a first-generation college graduate and the oldest of three daughters of immigrants. Higher education has always been my goal and my biggest motivation, alongside my love for art and storytelling. I’ve had a camera since I was 10 years old—what started as a hobby quickly became my way of documenting life, connection, and emotion. My journey into the creative industry truly took shape in high school when, thanks to the support of my mentors, I was accepted into a pre-college program at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. That experience solidified my desire to be in a creative, collaborative space where ideas flow, and art has an impact. In that environment, I realized I wanted to turn this passion into a profession. Now, I offer photography services that center on storytelling—whether through brand sessions, portraits, events, or creative campaigns.
My work is helping clients feel seen and heard, translating their vision into something meaningful and visually compelling. I work closely with each client to ensure that what we create together feels authentic to them. If a concept doesn’t translate right away, I welcome reworking it—because the final product should feel right and empowering to them. My approach sets me apart. Every session is a collaboration, not just a service. I deeply value connection and aim to make people feel comfortable, confident, and celebrated in front of the camera. I believe that good work comes from trust and communication, which I bring to every project. What I’m most proud of is not just the growth of my business but also the way it’s become a reflection of my journey, values, and voice. I want potential clients and supporters to know that this work comes from a place of passion, lived experience, and genuine care for the people I work with. I’m here to tell stories that matter—and to help others tell theirs in ways they’ll be proud of.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is engaging with a vibrant community of creatives. I find immense inspiration in exploring diverse artistic styles and understanding the unique processes that lead to each final piece. Collaborating with fellow artists allows us to exchange ideas, build upon each other’s concepts, and collectively bring visions to life. There’s a profound satisfaction in witnessing a project evolve from a mere idea to a tangible creation, knowing that every moment of effort contributed to something meaningful.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to uplift my community through art, collaboration, and dialogue.
