Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alan Shaffer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
I had taken over two vacant listings from another agent who was not getting any traction in the market. No showings and no offers for well over 6 months. I recommended staging the homes since they were all very similar in this condo community and little to make them stand out. Once we had them professionally staged I brought in a real estate photographer, rewrote the listing description to highlight some of the best features of the home and produced marketing videos that I spread across the web, we had offers on both within 7 days and sold at full asking price. Sometimes you just have to do things differently and marketing homes is one of my specialties! It helps that I have a marketing degree from University of Texas at Arlington.

Alan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Many people know me as the condo guy. I’ve been helping people buy and sell condos, town homes (and even lots of single family homes) in the Dallas area for over 25 years now. I’ve lived in Kessler Park and Oak Lawn so I’m very familiar with urban Dallas. I love watching Dallas continue to grow and evolve into a truly world class city and I’m proud to be a 3rd generation Texan. I will take the time to understand your needs and goals so that I can provide you with the best possible assistance with your real estate transaction. My goal is to make this process easy and smooth while having fun along the way. For this reason most of my clients turn into lifelong friends and return to me years later when it’s time to move into the next stage of their lives. I will be your advocate and look out for your best interests while helping you avoid any pitfalls in what is most peoples biggest purchase of their lives.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My work ethic has always been to take the best possible care of my clients while interacting smoothly and professionally with other agents, title companies, lenders, inspectors and appraisers. As Hannah, one of my repeat clients said on Yelp, ” Alan really had to hustle and make some magic to juggle everything, but we never felt his stress or frustrations, even when tensions were high. He continued to knock heads when needed and smooth waters when needed. I have recommended him to so many people because Alan really does care about his clients. I am so glad he’s become our friend in addition to our Realtor.” By putting your clients needs and wishes first they know I truly have their best interests at heart and will tell you the good and the bad so they can make an informed decision.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I got into real estate after just completing my second bachelors degree. This time in art history (my first was a marketing degree) and I had been accepted into SMU’s masters program but my timing was wrong and all the scholarship money was allocated. So change of plan. I had considered real estate previously but just never make the jump. So major pivot and I jumped into the deep end with very little in savings so I had to hustle to make this work. I persevered and had a few lean initial years, but the hard work and solid ethics pays off and now I’m celebrating my 25th year in real estate. I’m so happy things worked out as they did because I can’t imagine my life any other way now.
