We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karen Yount a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Karen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The realization that I was taking a risk snuck up on me. I announced to my family and friends that I am doing energy healing now. Then the questions came: “What did you say, Karen? You are getting guidance and healing people? What does that even mean?” Much to my surprise, I felt very exposed and unprepared for what followed. Was I ready to tell my fellow psychotherapists of thirty years that I have entered the vague, undefined field of energy work? Why did this create such anxiety for me? I would never be described as risk averse. I loved the thrill of skydiving, and I don’t mind taking an unpopular position in a group. I think my self-esteem is pretty solid. So, what gives?
It turns out that it was subliminal material surfacing; those dubious programs operating underground, carrying messages, urging me not to take risks or go out on limbs by announcing that I am an energy healer. My subconscious stepped forward, bringing anxiety and doubt, designed to stop me, based on past experiences in this and other lifetimes or dimensions, to help me survive. Do I sound crazy to you yet? If I do, you are representing what I feared my friends, family and colleagues would think. Yet, a strong, immutable urge kept pushing me forward, toward my goal of becoming a healer, as bizarre as that sounded to me. I had come to know that THIS was the right path for me.
My mentor and teacher helped me unearth the beliefs that spawned anxiety and doubt, creating impediments to my starting a new business. Then, I was able to release them, allowing me to put myself out there and stepping into my new role as an energy healer. Now I am free of anxiety and doubt, no longer out on a limb, or taking a risk. I’m doing what feels right, aligned and not limited by negative interference from within.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My profession as an energy healer rests on more than thirty years as a psychotherapist. I have assisted countless individuals on their personal journeys. Yet, I frequently encountered a puzzling disconnect: clients would diligently work towards their outcomes, have insights and awareness and still struggle to achieve the changes they desired. I wanted to know why. I also had questions of my own: What the heck am I doing here on Earth? What is the nature of All That Is? I delved into various spiritual and philosophical traditions over the years to answer these questions. While I know that we co-create our own reality through our thoughts and feelings, I struggled to manifest what I wanted. Was something deeper at play? I wondered what was in the way of my progress. What kept me and my clients from reaching our goals? For me, the transformative power of energy work closed that gap. When I began as a client, I was astonished that these new techniques could access the unconscious, release trapped feelings, change limiting beliefs and create a whole new perspective with relative ease, thus re-wiring my brain. This profound experience ignited a deep sense of purpose within me, leading me to embark on a new path as an energy healer. In addition to my credentials as a licensed psychotherapist, I became certified as a practitioner in Free-mE EFT® Tapping and ThetaHealing®.
I now combine the wisdom of psychotherapy with innovative energy healing techniques, guiding clients on a journey of transformation. By accessing the subconscious mind, we uncover the hidden patterns and beliefs that are sabotaging progress. I am passionate about working with people, empowering them to create a life aligned with their deepest desires. So, if you want to let go of troubled feelings, embrace your power, manifest wealth and freedom, live your life’s purpose or experience greater joy and fulfillment, energy work might be just what you are looking for. It could be the key to an unlimited you.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I read and explored various philosophies, religions, and spiritual practices over time. From childhood, I’ve intuitively felt the interconnectedness of all things. I mean everything: human, ocean, blade of grass, a bear, Saturn, etc. But, like many of us, I struggled to understand how it all works. I wanted to make sense of what I knew intuitively to be true. Also I was fascinated with the interplay between science and spirituality.
As I began learning and practicing energy work, I started reading the book, “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself”, by Dr. Joe Dispenza. He refers to the phenomenon scientists call the “observer effect” in which everything exists in wave form until it is observed. The act of witnessing causes the subatomic particles to collapse into matter, choosing one physical form from limitless possibilities. It hit me like a lightning bolt, illuminating that why witnessing a person’s shift in beliefs is crucial in my work: the act of observing solidifies the change. Through Dr. Dispenza’s teachings (his books, meditations, and retreats) I’ve discovered a scientific foundation for my spiritual perspectives, particularly through the lens of quantum physics. It demonstrates that all things are connected in the quantum field, from the smallest blade of grass to the vastness of the galaxy, and that our beliefs, feelings and energy influence everything. My entrepreneurial philosophy has grown out of this understanding: the interconnectedness of everything. So now, my business aims to be fully aligned with my personal values, spiritual awareness and these scientific underpinnings, focused on contributing to the well-being of ONE and ALL.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
My journey to unlearn my way of being in the world became undeniably clear when I realized that my identity as a rebel was built on opposition. And that opposition was out of alignment with my spiritual conviction, that we are all connected, all ONE. Somehow, I had to figure out how to unlearn my identity as a rebel, based on the illusion that we are separate.
I grew up in Washington, DC, where protests and marches were my response to all injustices that I thought needed to be reformed. For many years, I believed that external action, such as marching and demonstrating, was the sole means of effecting societal change. I seriously underestimated the influence of internal transformation. Eventually, I began to see that my thinking and protesting against something was based on perceived divisions between “us” and “them,” with inherent judgments of right and wrong. Because all that we think and feel becomes part of the collective consciousness, I realized that I was projecting judgment and criticism out into the universe. Furthermore, since what we focus on grows, when tuned into suffering in the world, feeling sad, angry and hopeless, I was both contributing to and attracting more of the same. Ultimately, I understood that dismantling these patterns was essential, both for reducing my negative impact on the world and for my personal healing and growth. Because internal shifts have significant and far-reaching consequences, affecting the totality of existence, my work is to release judgment, opposition and hopelessness, and to create change from the inside out. I now strive to embody peace, kindness and love, placing my awareness on the positive attributes needed in the world, and radiating them outward into All That Is.
