Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brad Dietrich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brad thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I grew up the only child in a small town West of Toronto. Ever since I was in my early adolescence I felt very out of place, kind of like an outcast that really didn’t fit in with the culture and the opinions of the majority of the people. It wasn’t until I began dancing and pushing myself out of my comfort zone where I was able to find my people- in the studio. From then on began my passion for performing and story-telling. After years of intense dance training, I began dipping my toes in theatre, mainly youth theatre and drama class throughout high school. These classes confirmed my passion for performing and I took the huge risk of moving out of my small town after college graduation, to Toronto- to chase one of the hardest dreams a person can achieve, becoming an actor. I haven’t looked back since.
Brad , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From being an outcast in a small town, to creating a name for myself in the entertainment industry in one of Canada’s biggest most diverse cities, it has been a wild ride! After moving to the city and signing with one of my Toronto’s leading agents in 2017, AMP Talent Group, I have been consistently booking acting work for commercials, tv, film, theatre… and even print! (No I do not consider myself a model by any means). Although highly competitive, stressful at times and cutthroat, the passion and goals that resides behind the character and within me are the ultimate driving force behind the resilience. With acting, I have been able to help directors and producers solve issues quickly on set (and yes, sometimes there can be a lot of them), while being able to remain professional, engaging and in character and the main thing I want people to take away is that I am capable of being able to adapt to any situation, no matter how scary or “impossible” it may seem.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Supporting artists I greatly value. Whenever depressed, anxious, or if life just begins to overwhelm me, I turn on a movie or tv show to help take my mind off of things and the external stresses the world can have. It can be very therapeutic to disassociate from the cruel and stressful world, and escape it through the TV or computer screen. To support us and the industry of artists, keep watching and liking our content (only if it resonates, of course!)
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The only reason why I am in this industry is because of an intent and goal… and that is to inspire people and help them escape the stresses of life! If I can do something as small as making someone laugh or “feel” something, to help distract them from lives stresses, then I have achieved my goal.
