We recently connected with SilkSoFye and have shared our conversation below.
SilkSoFye, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first time I saw any significant money from music was after my song “Forever” went viral in 2016 & 2017. That was the first time I saw thousands of dollars in my distribution account, that’s when I knew this was a possible career for me.
SilkSoFye, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is SilkSoFye & I’m an artist, creative, & (behind the scenes) marketing specialist. I got into music around 2016, & developed a true passion for it. I come from a background of being around famous artists growing up because my Dad was on the radio in my hometown of Greenville, SC. I moved to ATL in 2017 to pursue my passion, & was able to make it full time in 2018.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Right now, I’m going through a transition as an artist, moving more into a genre of rap/r&b that’s focused on the ladies. I don’t feel like there’s enough male artists for women to listen too & feel good. I want to be the artist they cut on when they want to feel sexy, & the artist guys cut on when they’re around their lady.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is just hearing & seeing how your music has an effect on people. Providing them with a moment of joy in their day is what makes it all worth it.
