We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful BRENDIN LOWITENG. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with BRENDIN below.
BRENDIN, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative or artistic path professionally traces all the way back to my childhood. My parents always had music around the house — everything from Linkin Park to reggae — and that early exposure planted the seed. When I lived in Arizona, I’d watch my neighbors play guitar on their porch, and something about it sparked a deep curiosity in me. Once I got my first guitar, my grandma enrolled me in lessons, and before long, I was forming my first band in high school. That journey eventually led to the creation of my current band, Bella Nova.
But the path wasn’t always smooth. During COVID, my previous band, Awake, broke up, and at the same time, I was dealing with the fallout of a painful relationship. It was one of the lowest points in my life, and I found myself searching for something — anything — that could help me rise out of that darkness. That search led me to acting, where I could channel my emotions and reconnect with a sense of purpose beyond myself. Wanting to grow even stronger, both mentally and spiritually, I later took up martial arts. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve earned a black belt, and that discipline continues to shape who I am as both an artist and a person.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a music artist, storyteller, and creative force behind Bella Nova—a project that began as an outlet in my bedroom and has grown into a bold, cinematic sound experience. My music lives at the intersection of vulnerability and experimentation, blending emotion with sonic storytelling. Over the years, I’ve built a team that shares my vision, including my cousin Michael Tukes (CEO of Tukes Studios), with whom I’m co-creating a visual series to accompany my upcoming album Quiet Violence, set to release through summer 2025.
Working with my producer Christopher Fridrich-Metz has been essential in shaping the Bella Nova sound. His engineering and creative input have helped me evolve from raw demos into a cohesive, genre-bending body of work that challenges traditional boundaries.
While I also work in acting and hold a Black Belt in Karate, music is the heartbeat of my creative life. It’s where I process, connect, and express what words alone can’t. I want my audience to feel seen, heard, and emotionally moved—whether it’s through a single lyric, a full album, or an accompanying visual story.
At the core, Bella Nova is about transformation—turning quiet pain into powerful art and giving a voice to emotions that often go unspoken.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is acknowledgment—not in the sense of fame, but in knowing that my work has genuinely reached someone and moved them. Whether it inspires them, fuels their passion, or simply offers them a moment of stillness in a chaotic world, that connection is everything. The world is constantly in motion, but if my music can make someone pause—really pause—and feel something deeply, then I’ve done my job. That moment of presence, where the art resonates with the core of someone’s soul, is what I value most.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe society often falls into the trap of letting pride and ego create a narrow definition of what’s acceptable or “normal.” Anything that challenges that norm is too easily dismissed as radical or misunderstood. To truly support artists and a thriving creative ecosystem, we need to break free from that mindset.
I strive to challenge this by encouraging people to step outside their comfort zones and really engage with art—look at it, listen to it, question it. Don’t just consume it; allow yourself to feel it. When we approach art with curiosity instead of judgment, we open the door for new perspectives and experiences to take root. From that, new realities can blossom—even within those who once shut themselves off from creative expression. Supporting artists starts with allowing space for the unfamiliar and giving room for the imagination to thrive.
