We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alisa Amaro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alisa below.
Alisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I want to build is one of growth, even if a person decides to give up or take breaks and start again with a village by their side. People will say I am a hard-working, creative woman, but I always show gratitude to my community, friends, family, and even strangers for joining me on my journey to success. I hope to be remembered for my innovative photoshoot concepts and for the times when I felt like giving up or needed breaks from photography; during my resurgence, I worked harder than ever because I reevaluated my strategies in marketing, communication, and vision.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a photographer based in Western Massachusetts who has been working in this field for eight years, thanks to my mother buying me my first Canon camera when I was feeling depressed during my senior year of high school. I have explored weddings, fashion, editorial photography, and more. My ultimate goal is to make my clients feel comfortable, beautiful or handsome, and happy throughout our session. Although I am only 25 years old, I know this profession will allow me to showcase my growth to beautiful new eyes around the world. I mainly focus on creative and fashion shoots, using editing techniques such as retouching and photo manipulation. I am proud to have connected with amazing individuals who have supported me for years and respect my craft and hard work. Seventeen-year-old me didn’t know this art form would take me this far, but I am glad I started and found something I passionately love.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media, especially Instagram, I receive all of my clients on that platform because it is DESIGNED for us to display our creativity. I enjoy that my clients can see my work and determine that I am the right photographer for them. Facebook is also effective, but I feel that it is not as rapid in response to the art community as Instagram.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Word of mouth from family, friends, and new clients who have enjoyed their experience during our photoshoot session. Also, hearing that my clients were comfortable with me while we were creating pushed me to make that my motto. Similarly, I attend networking events and either bring my camera to take images of the vendors and hosts or bring business cards and start discussions with the participants to get my name out there.
