We were lucky to catch up with Michael Taulton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michael , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This clothing brand has been a long time in the making, since about 2013 or 2014. I had the idea to start designing clothes when I was still living in Brunswick, MD and was doing a lot of street art. I hadn’t the slightest clue of where to start and I was also really active with music so I just kind of stuck with making music for the time. Fast forward to 2020 when I begun my solo music project OHHDREAMER and got to a point where I needed some merch for shows and tour. As I started designing and producing clothes it just re-awakened that lost love of starting a clothing brand. So that’s what I did! A few years later in 2023 OHD Presents was born!

OHD Presents is an alternative lifestyle clothing brand highlighting our witchy, odd, and curious fascinations while empowering the people to express themselves freely. Our brand statement, “Journey Inward” encourages our friends and fans to empower themselves by being themselves.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media audience these days is no easy feat when you’re first starting out. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, and maybe even a little discouraging if you’re not seeing an immediate response, but DO NOT QUIT!
Social media is a long game and it may take a little time to get traction but the algorithm will do the work for you if you know how to utilize it properly. I’ll give you some examples of what I’ve done.
Consistency is key. Post at least once on every platform every day. Even if it’s not directly related to your brand make that post so the algorithm picks up that consistency. Then, find your people. What do I mean by that? Your Niche! Put yourself in spaces where your fans can find you. Got an awesome horror movie collection? Post that collection! The people will find you friend.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being present in the community has made a huge impact. Supporting local artists, musicians, and small businesses really exemplifies the empowering nature of the brand. Additionally, anytime I’m at a local event or market, I’m always wearing my brand. People can see the physical product, ask questions on the spot, and it really affords us the opportunity have a meaningful connection with the community as a whole.
