We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andy Yu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The “Andy Yu” solo project has been such a meaningful expression and capture of my life as an artist from 2019 to present. My discography of almost 50 songs released over the last 6 years has captured all of the big wins and hard losses of my life. Making upbeat summer songs and heartbroken ballads, with influences like Remi Wolf, Dominic Fike, Wallows, Clairo, and more, it’s amazing to me that I get to look back and see how I’ve grown as a person and an artist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a local independent artist from the DFW area and as a multi-instrumentalist, I produce all of my songs in my home studio. I make Indie Pop music that will accompany you throughout any experience you may be going through. From an exciting roadtrip to explore new worlds, to a night to yourself to explore your emotions.
My community of fans and supporters really sets me apart from the rest! I feel strongly that culture is from the top down and I am so proud of my community for being such loving and supportive people.
My fans love intimate concert settings and always wear the cutest outfits to my events!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
For the present, my next goal is to take on bigger stages in Texas! Having opened for Jimmy Brown at Tulips FTW and performed at YAR Fest 2024 alongside Agnez Mo, Justin Park, Kire, and Rei Ami I’m excited to give my fans an unforgettable stage experience in the coming years.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist, the community built around you is hands down the most rewarding aspect.
People who genuinely support your art and vision, and are so excited to see how you will continue to grow and reinvent yourself!
