Heather , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve always had a deep passion for helping others and making life a little easier for those around me. In January of last year, I recognized a critical need in our community—a rehab unit for our first responders. My husband, who serves as our town’s fire chief, was responding to two separate house fires on a bitterly cold day, with snow and ice covering the ground. I knew I couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
I quickly contacted McDonald’s and ordered 30 sausage biscuits, then stopped by Dunkin’ to pick up large bags of coffee. When I delivered them to the scene, the gratitude from the firefighters was overwhelming—it felt as though I had handed them a million dollars. That moment made something very clear to me: I had found a new calling.
I spoke with my husband and shared my vision of establishing a dedicated rehab unit to support all of our local first responders. He wholeheartedly agreed, noting it was something that had been needed for years. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to provide snacks, drinks, and essential support during emergency calls to help keep our responders energized and cared for while they do their vital work.
That mission became even more significant last summer during a five-day search for a missing woman. In the sweltering heat, hundreds of responders from various agencies joined the search efforts. What began as a small tote of snacks and a cooler of drinks quickly grew into a full-scale rehab unit. The outpouring of support from our community was incredible—people donated food, drinks, and supplies in abundance. It was truly a blessing, and I was in awe of how God provided exactly what was needed, and more.
What started as a simple act of kindness has turned into a powerful community effort and a personal calling to serve those who serve us.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From a young age, I can remember my mother always having a camera in her hand—capturing every moment and every face. At the time, I never imagined that her love for photography would one day become my own passion. Over the past 13 years, that passion has grown into something truly meaningful.
When I began this journey, I didn’t have formal training. I taught myself step by step, learning through experience and each session I took on. I still remember my very first session—three energetic kids who kept me on my toes. Looking back, I had no idea what I was doing, but I made the best of it. The photos brought joy to the family, and I earned a little money, but more importantly, I found something I genuinely loved.
Since then, I’ve had the honor of photographing countless families, seniors, and weddings. Just this year, I already have five weddings booked. I’ll admit—I’m a bit of a worrier and always hope my clients are happy with the work I deliver. Hearing their excitement and appreciation is always the greatest reward.
For me, photography isn’t about making a lot of money—it’s about creating lasting memories. I understand that professional photos aren’t always affordable for everyone, so I strive to be accessible and accommodating. If I can help someone capture precious moments they might not otherwise have, then I consider that a success.
Some of my proudest moments have come from seeing my work displayed in clients’ homes, used as profile pictures, or shared through word-of-mouth referrals. I don’t advertise much, but I’m incredibly grateful that people continue to reach out and book with me.
One of the highlights of my journey has been working with singer-songwriter Kyle Elliott, who has used my photos for his music promotions. We met years ago and became fast friends—his encouragement has pushed me to keep growing, try new techniques, and give every session my all.
Through it all, my family has been my biggest support system. My mother, especially, was always my number one fan. Though she’s no longer with us, I know she’s still cheering me on from above.
Photography has given me more than I ever imagined. It’s more than a passion—it’s a purpose.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
One of the most effective sources of new clients for my photography business has been word-of-mouth referrals. I truly believe that when you listen to your clients, understand their vision, and deliver a memorable experience along with quality work, they not only return—but they also share their experience with friends and family. This year alone, I’ve welcomed many new clients, largely thanks to referrals and the power of social media.
At the core of my approach is a simple philosophy: always treat your clients like they matter—because they do. Every client deserves to feel valued, heard, and appreciated. That personal connection often makes all the difference.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation has been built on consistency, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to my clients. From the very beginning, I’ve focused on creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone I work with—whether it’s a family session, a senior portrait, or a wedding. I take the time to understand what each client is looking for and do everything I can to deliver not just beautiful images, but lasting memories.
Word-of-mouth has been a major driver of growth, and that comes from treating every client with respect, showing up prepared, and always putting in my best effort. I’m not just capturing moments—I’m building trust, and that trust has been the foundation of my reputation. I also think my willingness to be approachable and accommodating—especially for those who might not think professional photography is within their reach—has helped me stand out and connect with my community.
