We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Audrey Hayes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Audrey, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I started The Creative Rally because I want to see mission-driven companies succeed. Some of my most meaningful work comes from serving do-good organizations, like Promise686––a nonprofit in the foster care and adoption space. As Promise’s creative strategist, I work alongside their team to provide event branding, content development, storytelling, and graphic design. Knowing the services I provide play a small role in pushing forward their mission to care for vulnerable children defines why I do what I do. Ultimately, partnering with organizations to make a positive impact is the heartbeat of The Creative Rally, and the Promsie686 partnership is one of the most meaningful to date.
Audrey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Audrey Hayes, a Creative Director in Atlanta and the founder of The Creative Rally, a mission-driven creative agency. My personal mission statement is to “Spark Creativity. Inspire Justice,” and I launched The Creative Rally as a step in that direction.
I believe purpose-driven organizations have a story worth telling and a mission worth sharing. Since their work is some of the most inspiring work in the world, I believe their creative content should be too. That’s why our offerings are specifically designed for changemakers.
The Creative Rally offers everything from storytelling content, like video editing and writing, to visual design, like graphics and branding. I partner with clients to create long-term creative strategies while also meeting content needs in the here and now.
When beginning a new partnership, I aim to fully understand who they serve, what they do, and what they desire to accomplish. My goal is to fully immerse myself into their world so we can quickly get to a place of trust. I love taking the weight and load of the creative process off the shoulders of nonprofit and business leaders so they can focus on other areas of their organization.
One thing that sets me apart from other creative agencies is my passion to see do-good organizations succeed. Ultimately, I want to help these clients push forward their mission, one creative project at a time.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
All of my clients have come from word-of-mouth referrals. I typically receive email or phone calls from potential clients, and the majority have been referred by a previous or current client. That’s the beauty of offering creative services. Unlike many other industries, our work is more easily seen (like the branding of an event you’re attending, or the graphics and videos that accompany a newsletter you’re receiving). In my case, these “portfolio pieces” have led to new business.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Partnering with those who are bettering people’s lives is the most rewarding aspect of what I do. It’s a gift to use my skill set to serve “do-good” clients and I love knowing my work plays a small role in positively impacting others!
