We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Monisha Mallik. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Monisha below.
Monisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I always wanted to have my own practice, but I knew I needed experience before I took the plunge. Years of working for someone else always meant having to practice in their style or be told what I could and could not do. I spent a lot of time training outside of jobs to keep my skills sharp and always observed what I would want to do (or not want to do) when I finally opened my own office. And if I’m being honest, I mostly just learned all the things I wouldn’t do when finally on my own.
So many people always told me that there is never a “right” time to start your own practice, but deep down I knew I would know when I was ready. This happened when my growth in a company was being stunted. Despite my willingness to take on more and help the business grow, I was kept in the same role.
You know you’re ready when you are looking for more! I wanted to help more people, I wanted to be able to spend more time with them, and I knew I wanted to be in a position that didn’t put a cap on my growth as a person and a doctor.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Becoming a Chiropractor was not on my list of potential careers growing up. In fact, I didn’t know anything about the profession until much later in life! I was on the path to follow in my father’s footsteps – surgery. I was working with him and shadowing him in the hospital. Despite the incredible experience of witnessing surgeries, something didn’t feel right. I realized I did not want this lifestyle.
Around the same time this happened my Mom asked me to drive her to her doctor’s office. She was in a lot of pain and needed help. Turns out, we were going to her Chiropractor. I helped her to the office and sat in on the appointment. Within 30 minutes she was feeling great and walked out of the room pain free. I sat there, stunned, and told the doctor I wanted to know what he had just done…so quickly?
Within a matter of weeks I began researching the profession, shadowed my Mom’s doctor and found out that my father consistently refers patients for this type of care. Everything about it felt right and I decided to pivot. And when I told my Dad, he could not have been more excited with the decision because it meant I was at the forefront of care for so many people.
I get to help so many different people: different ages, athletes, prenatal care, corporate warriors, dancers, runners and so many others. There is no limit to who I can help and it’s such a blessing to help them prevent injury and dis-ease.
My practice is not like the many others people associate with Chiropractors. My approach is to guide patients out of pain and help them learn the tools to stay out of pain. I spend up to 1 hour with patients teaching them how to take their health into their own hands through rehab, nutrition and breath-work.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Nothing speaks more volumes than referrals from current patients. The biggest complement you can receive is when they send their loved ones, friends, co-workers to you. These people come in with a sense of ease because they feel they already know you. They’ve also been able to see how your work has helped their friends/ family.
Of all of the ways you can market yourself through websites, google reviews, social media – this will always be the most rewarding of all because someone is bringing up your name in such a positive light and sharing how you helped make their life a little better!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The Go Giver – recommended to me by a mentor in Graduate School. This book is a must read for anyone in business as it covers so many aspects of business ownership but also ways to navigate life as a whole. It’s a beautiful story about authenticity, service to others and how giving to others is the fastest way to gain success in all areas of life.
