We were lucky to catch up with Olivia Chavez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Olivia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
If I had the opportunity to change the educational system, one of my top priorities would be to implement comprehensive financial literacy courses as a core part of the curriculum from an early age. I believe that poverty often persists not merely due to lack of opportunity, but because of a lack of guidance and practical knowledge. Many people grow up without understanding how to manage money, build credit, invest wisely, or even budget for daily living expenses—and that absence of foundational financial skills creates a cycle that can be hard to break. By integrating classes focused on survival skills, such as personal finance, entrepreneurship, taxes, job readiness, and emotional intelligence, we would not only equip students to succeed in the real world, but also empower them to break free from systemic challenges. Education should prepare people to live fulfilling, independent lives—not just academically, but holistically. A system that teaches students how to navigate adulthood, pursue meaningful careers, and make informed decisions would ultimately foster a more self-sufficient, confident, and compassionate society. Creating an education model rooted in life skills would not only reduce financial instability but also unlock the potential for individuals to live with purpose, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and experience a deeper sense of fulfillment in both their personal and professional lives.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One moment that stands out in my real estate journey—a true testament to my resilience and dedication—was when I was representing a buyer in a highly competitive market. The property they had fallen in love with had multiple offers on the table, and the listing agent had made it clear she would likely be presenting the strongest offers to her clients the next morning. I knew that if I didn’t act fast and go the extra mile, my clients could lose out on what they had envisioned as their future home.
Despite it being close to midnight, I jumped into action. I communicated strategically with the other agent to understand what would make our offer stand out. Then, I drafted and submitted a compelling, clean offer—tailored precisely to what the seller was looking for—before the agent had a chance to share any others. It was a race against the clock, but I wasn’t willing to let timing or comfort stand in the way of what was best for my client.
That night, while most people were asleep, I was negotiating, drafting, and securing the deal. It wasn’t about impressing anyone—it was about delivering on a promise I had made to my clients. That moment solidified something I’ve always known about myself: I don’t stop when it’s convenient. I keep going until the job is done. My clients know they have someone in their corner who will move mountains for them, and that level of relentless dedication is what I bring to every transaction.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve used to grow my clientele has been staying humble, authentic, and constantly engaging with people—everywhere I go. I don’t see real estate as something I switch on or off depending on the day; it’s an extension of who I am. Whether I’m at a coffee shop, a networking event, the gym, or running errands, I’m always open to conversation, and I genuinely love connecting with people. I bring up real estate naturally because you never know who you’re talking to or how you might be able to serve them—or someone they know.
I don’t rely on flashy sales pitches or aggressive tactics. I lead with curiosity and care, and I make it a point to listen. That simple but powerful habit of talking to people, staying approachable, and offering value—without expecting anything in return—has created a strong network built on trust and authenticity. People remember that. And when the time comes that they or someone they know needs a real estate professional, they think of me—not just because I sell homes, but because I showed up as a real person first.
