We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lily Bohl a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lily, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Hello! My name is Lily, and I first became interested in floral preservation and floral art after I married my partner in 2021. The bouquet from our wedding ceremony was absolutely gorgeous, and as I researched various methods for how I could hold on to it forever, I was drawn into the world of floral preservation, art, and design.
In doing so, I realized there was a deeper emotional need to tangibly hold onto memories. For me, it was my wedding; for others, it might be a memorial service, graduation, or another meaningful milestone in their life. After seeing what I created from my bouquet, friends and family began asking me to preserve their flowers, and that’s when I started to understand just how significant a role flowers play in our lives and memories.
What excites me most is that every piece tells a story. Whether I’m working with found flowers or preserving blooms from life’s big moments, the art I create has personal history and is a tribute to nature. There’s nothing more beautiful or grounding to me than nature itself, whether I’m creating with it or simply admiring it. Nature is all around us, and it deserves to be preserved.

Lily, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With the name Lily, I think I was destined to work with flowers. As a child, I loved picking wildflowers and pressing them in old books, and I was never ready to let them go. That deep-rooted love eventually grew into a business that helps people preserve the memories flowers represent—forever.
To help me express my creative side, I launched my business from my garage in 2022 after taking a leap of faith and leaving an unfulfilling corporate gig. I now design colorful, one-of-a-kind jewelry, keepsakes, and functional art pieces that celebrate individuality and natural beauty. The entire process is both meditative and joyful for me.
Right now, my primary focus is on my jewelry line. It’s my way of sharing pressed flower art with more people, and I’m proud to share that each piece is handmade in small batches, and no two are alike—just like flowers themselves. I use a wide variety of blooms that reflect the language of floriography, where different flowers carry unique meanings. Being able to connect with my customers through this language has brought so much fulfillment to my work and life.
At its core, my brand is about preserving beauty, sparking connection, and creating meaningful keepsakes. I pour love into every piece, and I think that care resonates with my customers, many of whom come back again and again.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I’d have to say that pop-up art markets take the cake! There’s no better way to grow your business than physically putting yourself out there, building your reputation, and connecting with your community. Grassroots networking works, especially when you meet it with a smile and with passion.
I live in Austin, Texas, which is an incredibly supportive city for artists and entrepreneurs. When I first moved here, knowing no one, I reached out to a local brewery about joining their upcoming market. After making that call, that market launched my career.
Austin’s art scene is thriving, and you can find multiple markets across the city every weekend (and even on weekdays). Unlike my e-commerce platform, pop-up art markets allow customers to meet me in person and connect with my brand. Many now follow me on Instagram (@indigoandlilyco) to see where I’ll be next. I’m proud to share that I’m now featured in seven local gift shops thanks to the exposure and word of mouth generated through pop-ups.
