We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Huey Bradbury-Ngo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Huey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
One of the biggest ways I diverge from the industry standard is by keeping everything personal and hands-on. I run a boutique studio, which means I’m involved in every single part of the process—from the first sketch to the final sample. That’s not something often seen in traditional production settings, where things are highly commercialized and communication can get lost in the process.
Many of my clients are referred to me after feeling overwhelmed by how disconnected and rigid the typical development process can be. In contrast, I’m right there alongside them, troubleshooting and refining in real-time to provide their perfect design. Whether it’s helping a designer with their very first pattern or adjusting a sample mid-process—I offer a kind of flexibility, collaboration, and attention to detail that a manufacturer can’t replicate.
For me, it’s less about creating a product and more about building a project together. That collaboration is what makes the work meaningful—and I think it’s why many of my clients continue to build their collections with me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Huey Bradbury-NGO, a designer, pattern maker, and sample maker based in Los Angeles. I run a studio called Blueprint Pattern & Sample, where I work one-on-one with designers and clients to develop garments from sketch to sample. I love to problem solve and focus on providing exquisite attention to details.
I realized from an early age that I love how clothes can change a persons mood and self-esteem. The image they communicate to the world. I understood that clothes is not just practical but aspirational. I read fashion magazines and collected images that inspired and ignited a deep for clothes and desire to work in the world of fashion, which led to attend fashion school and took on different roles working in the industry.
After many years of experience from being a fashion designer with my own line in boutiques, to helping other launch their brands, I concluded that I there is a need for a pattern/sampler maker who understands the processes involved in creating a high quality sample that reflects the designers original intend, rather than a sample maker who can sew. I decided to take a leap and start my own business, Blueprint Pattern and Sample LLC.
Now I provide hands-on and personalized experience for my clients. I take honor in being able to provide services that include pattern drafting, prototyping, fabric sourcing, fitting, sample sewing, and garment development. What sets me apart is the level of involvement and integrity I bring to each project. I’m not just executing a design—I’m often offering suggestions, refining construction, and helping clients make decisions that elevate their work.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many of them are independent or emerging designers who come to me by referrals, and I know how vulnerable it can be to share a new idea. My job is to make the process feel approachable, collaborative, thoughtful, and most of all personable. I want people to know that working with me isn’t just about getting a sample—it’s about building a partnership rooted in care, curiosity, and precision.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part is the moment a designer sees their vision come to life for the first time. The ability to bring an idea to a tangible item is very exciting. Being part of that transformation, especially when I’ve helped guide and shape it along the way, is something I never take for granted.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to create an welcoming all-hands-on environment for designers to rely on for garment development—especially for independent designers who may not have access to the resources or guidance that larger brands do. I want people to feel empowered by the process, not intimidated by it. At the heart of my work is a belief in craft and connection.
