We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dion Pollard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dion thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I always tell everyone who ask this question, I was born an artist. My mother was an artist. I started creating around the age of 3 and more seriously around the age of 13. My high school future occupation in the year book says Artist. I knew from the time I could create. It was and is a part of my very being. Art chose me through God. It is merged with the very fiber of me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a fine artist. My favorite subjects to create varies. Ranging from figurative, to landscapes and still life painting. My work is very textured and 3d. I work in vibrant colors to evoke emotion, spiritual connection and positive vibes. I found my way into the main stream of this art industry through mentorship by way of a renowned artist Larry Poncho Brown. He taught me the business side of the industry which I was lacking in. Artist create works that appeal to collectors. Art collectors are looking for art that represent their vision through us. I’m most proud of my ability to keep elevating my art. I didn’t want to settle for the norm. I found ways to bring my work off the canvas in a 3d way. This sparked more interest and amazement with my work.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I grew up in poverty and abuse. Home life wasn’t the best for me. Through my art i found a way to escape. Through my art i could paint another reality. That’s why until this present day through my art I try and make things right with the world. If i paint a piece representing a challenge or struggle, within that same piece you will see the triumph over adversity.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I tell this story as often as I can. In 2018 a young man named Elijah came up to me and my son at a art festival. He said God told me to tell you something. He said God told me to tell you that your Art is going to prosper, but first you have to loose everything. I was like come on, I have been through enough. That year I got divorced, lost my dream home, went through back surgeries, but my Art prospered. Many opportunities came my way from that day on. It was then i realized this is my purpose, Art is my purpose.
