We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Remya Warrior. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Remya below.
Remya, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission has always been about bringing people together. As someone who follows Amma—a spiritual leader known around the world for her message of love and unity—I’ve seen firsthand how powerful a simple embrace, a welcoming space, or a warm meal can be in connecting people. Amma’s global movement is called Embracing the World, and in many ways, I see my work as an extension of that same spirit.
When I moved to the U.S. in 1997, I left behind the familiar rhythm of home—our family, our culture, and everything we knew. Like many immigrants, starting over wasn’t easy. Making friends as an adult can be especially hard, so building a sense of community became deeply important to me. Over the past 25+ years, the friends we’ve made have become like family. We’ve shared milestones, raised our kids side by side, and grown together.
I’ve always been a spiritual soul, and I believe the spaces we live in affect us deeply. Too often, interior design is seen as something superficial—just about pretty things. But I’ve learned it’s so much more. Our homes are a reflection of who we are, and they can either drain or uplift us.
I experienced this transformation firsthand. When we bought our first home, it felt lifeless. We couldn’t afford much—we had a beer budget and champagne taste—but I started to get creative. I faux-finished walls myself, hunted for furniture at garage sales, and poured love into our bedroom. That room became my sanctuary. Every morning, I woke up smiling. It felt like a happy place—and that changed everything for me.
Over time, I redesigned every room and eventually took on major renovations like our kitchen and a master suite extension. Those projects didn’t just transform our home—they transformed me. I started seeing how space impacts confidence, creativity, even healing. It’s one thing to have a degree; it’s another to feel what design can truly do.
That’s why I now specialize in kitchen design. Time and time again, I’ve seen how a thoughtfully designed kitchen becomes the heart of the home. Clients start cooking more, eating better, hosting loved ones, and reconnecting with joy. The emotional shift is real.
I believe our society is in deep need of grounding—and that begins at home. If I can help create a space where families connect, share meals, laugh, and grow together, then I know I’m doing something meaningful. Through my design work, I’ve found my spiritual path—a way to embrace the world, one home at a time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Remya Warrior—an interior designer with over 15 years of experience and a master’s degree in interior design. I’m the founder of Remya Warrior Designs, based in New Jersey, where we specialize in kitchen and bath renovations, thoughtful space planning, and custom cabinetry solutions. My work is about more than just creating beautiful rooms—it’s about helping people feel connected, grounded, and proud of where they live.
My journey into design began in my own home. Like many immigrants, when we first moved to the U.S., we started small. Our first home was modest and uninspiring, but I poured myself into it—learning, experimenting, and transforming one room at a time. It taught me how our environment shapes our mindset and how design can uplift the spirit. When that home sold, we took a leap of faith and purchased a 5.5-acre property with a rundown house that was barely standing. Over time, we fully renovated it into a warm, spacious home that now feels like an ancestral retreat—visitors often say it feels like coming home.
At Remya Warrior Designs, I work with busy homeowners—especially women and families—who are ready to transform spaces that no longer serve them. Whether it’s a kitchen that needs better flow, a bathroom lacking functionality, or a home that just doesn’t feel “right,” I help uncover the potential and bring it to life.
What makes my approach different is how deeply I tune in to the people I design for. I’m spiritually guided and emotionally invested. I understand the weight of building a home from scratch or reworking one that holds years of memories. My process is collaborative, thoughtful, and filled with purpose—from the very first layout sketch to the final cabinet handle.
I’m most proud of the way my work has touched lives. I’ve seen clients rekindle a love for cooking, host more family dinners, and rediscover joy in their everyday routines—just by changing the space around them. It’s not just about design; it’s about transformation.
If you’re just discovering my work, know this: I believe your home should be a reflection of your soul. A place that brings you peace, pride, and connection. Whether you’re building something new or reimagining what you already have, I’m here to help you create a space that feels like you.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A significant pivot came when I decided to take the next step in my business and open a design showroom in Red Bank. I poured everything I had into that space—financially, creatively, emotionally. The building itself had been sitting empty because most people didn’t see its potential. But I did. I partnered with my vendors to bring in high-quality products, transformed the space from drab to beautiful, and created a showroom that truly reflected my design philosophy.
But just as things were beginning to take shape, COVID hit. Like many small businesses, we were deeply impacted. Tenants in the building started leaving, and eventually, the owner sold the entire property to a new investor. The new owner wanted to empty out the building, and we were asked to leave—just when we were getting started.
To make matters worse, we had also been scammed by a contractor around the same time, which added financial and emotional stress. The toll was so intense that my husband ended up having a heart attack. That was a breaking point—but also a moment of clarity.
The new owner, thankfully, was fair and offered us a buyout to leave early. We accepted it and made the difficult decision to close the showroom. But I knew this wasn’t the end—it was just a redirection.
Instead of giving up, I pivoted once again. I brought the work home—literally. I reused cabinetry from the showroom to build custom built-ins in our house. Our home became both a sanctuary and a showcase of my design work. Today, I meet clients here, where they can not only see my work but feel the spaces I’ve created. It’s warm, personal, and deeply intentional.
Through it all, I never stopped believing that everything happens for a reason. With the grace of my Guru, we were able to finish the house, rebuild, and emerge even stronger. This experience taught me that setbacks aren’t the end—they’re a setup for something more aligned, more meaningful, and often more beautiful than what we had imagined.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I’ve always believed that we have to work on ourselves constantly—because who we are directly impacts how we lead, how we serve, and how we grow. Over the years, I’ve read countless books, taken courses, and worked with amazing coaches, each of whom added something valuable to my journey.
One of the earliest books that shaped my thinking was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It taught me the power of empathy, listening, and connecting with people genuinely—skills that are essential not just in business, but in life.
I also had the opportunity to work closely in a small group with Michael Port, author of Book Yourself Solid and Steal the Show. His guidance around public speaking, business systems, and service-based marketing was transformational for me. He helped me find my voice—both literally and figuratively—and gave me tools to run a business rooted in purpose.
Other coaches like Walt Hampton helped me get better with time management, while Ann Sheybani worked with me to start putting some of my ideas and stories into writing. Every coach I’ve worked with shared one core belief: that we are here to be of service to the world. That’s a value I deeply share.
Through all of it, I’ve stayed committed to building a business based on integrity. I’m proud to say I’ve never had to con or manipulate anyone into working with me. I show up with sincerity, do the work with heart, and trust that the right clients will be drawn to that.
