We recently connected with Ami Burl and have shared our conversation below.
Ami, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Absolutely! One of the most significant trends I’ve been noticing in the nonprofit, education, and creative sectors including publishing is the growing urgency around securing grant funding in a landscape where funding sources are tightening and competition is rising. At the same time, there’s a critical skills gap: many individuals and organizations don’t know how to effectively identify, apply for, and manage grants. This creates both a major challenge and a powerful opportunity.
I’ve worked with numerous organizations that secured funding but never learned the skill of grant writing themselves. As a result, they became dependent on others to bring resources into their organizations—leaving them more vulnerable and struggling today. That’s why I created my Get the Grants Mini Workshop and supporting programs: to empower leaders with the skills they need to grow their organizations from within and build long-term sustainability.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
LA-Ink Publishing was founded in 2019 by media powerhouse Ami Burl, a 20-year veteran in broadcast production, public relations, and investigative journalism. With a strong commitment to her personal philosophy of “giving a voice to the voiceless,” Ami has built a brand rooted in empowerment, clarity, and impact.
Her work spans both public and private sectors, where she has led high-profile campaigns, managed crisis communications with precision, and crafted storytelling strategies that drive results. Whether it’s a nonprofit looking to make its mission resonate or a business professional needing to sharpen their message, Ami brings unmatched experience and empathy to the table.
A pivotal moment came during the pandemic. As the world shut down and many organizations faced financial uncertainty, Ami began helping them secure critical grant funding to stay afloat. What started as urgent support turned into a calling. “It was truly God-ordained,” Ami says. “That season showed me how powerful grant funding can be—and how important it is to teach others how to access it themselves.”
Today, LA-Ink Publishing empowers nonprofits, entrepreneurs, and creatives through grant writing education and strategic storytelling. One of the flagship offerings is the “Get the Grants” Mini Workshop, with the next live session happening on May 28th at 6 PM EST. The workshop pairs perfectly with the “Get the Grants: You Can & Will Be Successful Workbook”—a step-by-step guide to crafting strong, fundable proposals.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not qualified enough” or “I don’t know where to start,” you’re not alone—and you’re exactly who this was designed for.
What sets LA-Ink apart is Ami’s real-world expertise, her heart for community empowerment, and her drive to help people tell their stories with confidence and clarity. Through her leadership, clients have secured over 1M dollars in funding and services and has gained the tools to build sustainable growth.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to first understand your leadership style and then intentionally cultivate it in a way that supports and uplifts others. Personally, I identify as a servant leader. I work alongside my team, not above them, and that shared experience helps build trust and morale.
One reason this approach works for me is because I never ask my team to do something I haven’t done myself. I’ve been in their shoes, and I continuously push myself to learn and grow from every experience. That mindset creates mutual respect and fosters a culture of collaboration.
Ultimately, if you’re willing to grow alongside your team and lead with humility and purpose, everything else tends to fall into place.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation within the market has been built on a foundation of faith, continuous learning, and dedication. My trust in God has guided my decisions and grounded me through challenges, giving me a strong sense of purpose and resilience. Alongside that, my educational background and key career accomplishments have helped establish credibility and demonstrate my commitment to growth and excellence in everything I do.
