Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Edgar Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Edgar , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission didn’t start on a stage or in a boardroom.
It started in moments most people didn’t see.
Moments in the locker room.
Moments on the field as an underdog in the NFL.
Moments off the field facing doubt, transition, and the pressure to keep pushing when the spotlight faded.
I learned that leadership isn’t just about performance it’s about presence.
And growth?
It doesn’t come from what’s visible.
It comes from the unseen work character, discipline, and reflection.
I’ve lived that.
I know what it feels like to grind, to achieve, and still feel unsettled.
And I’ve learned that real impact doesn’t come from doing more it comes from becoming more intentional.
That’s why I help high performing leaders, slow down, think deeply, and lead thoughtfully through actionable strategies
This mission isn’t a tagline it’s a truth I’ve lived.
And now, it’s the work I’m honored to share.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Edgar Jones, and my journey began far from the boardroom; it started on the football field. I spent seven years in the NFL, where I learned that success isn’t just about strength or skill—it’s about mindset, discipline, and the ability to lead under pressure.
The real transformation came after the game when the cameras were off, the stadiums were empty, and I had to discover who I was beyond the jersey.
This experience led me to my current work as a leadership coach, speaker, and founder of LIT, which stands for Luminated In Thought.
LIT is more than just a brand; it’s a mindset. Everything begins in the mind. Before I speak, act, or lead, it all starts with thought.
Whether I’m working with corporate leaders, athletic teams, or mission-driven organizations, my goal is simple: to spark thought and discuss how to keep it LIT through actionable strategies.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Most people hear “NFL” and assume my path was smooth. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Coming out of high school, I was only offered one scholarship. Just one.
Then, my first three years in college were riddled with injuries.
• My freshman year? Hurt after the second game.
• Sophomore year? Same story injured after game two.
• By my junior year, I only played three or four games total.
But I showed enough in those moments those small windows that a door cracked open.
Despite going undrafted, I signed with an NFL team.
My signing bonus? $250. That’s right one thousand quarters.
People told me I wouldn’t last. They said I was undersized. Unproven. That I’d be cut within weeks.
But I played seven years in the NFL.
Why?
Because resilience isn’t about having the perfect path.
It’s about refusing to quit when the odds say you should.
It’s about believing in yourself before the world does.
My story isn’t just about making it
It’s about pushing through every reason not to.
Any advice for managing a team?
One of the best lessons I ever learned about leadership came from what I didn’t see.
I had a weight room coach who constantly preached the importance of training, push-ups, squats, staying disciplined, staying in shape.
His message was solid. Nothing wrong with what he was saying.
But not once did I see him in the weight room.
Not once did I see him do a single push-up or squat.
He talked about the grind… but never lived it in front of us.
And that stuck with me.
Because when you give a great message but don’t live the message, it confuses people.
As a leader, your words matter but your actions carry the weight.
If you want to manage a team and keep morale high, start here:
Live the message you speak.
• If you say accountability matters be accountable.
• If you preach consistency be consistent.
• If you value feedback invite it.
Because people won’t follow perfection.
They’ll follow someone who shows up and shows the way.
Morale doesn’t come from motivation speeches.
It comes from trust. And trust is built when your team sees you live what you expect.
