We were lucky to catch up with Stacy Beckly recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stacy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My film The Kids Are Alright is the most meaningful project I’ve worked on because I thought it, I wrote it and I made it. We filmed it in one day. I proved to myself I could envision a film and then create it. I now know, I truly believe in myself, that I can make the things I dream of, happen. After sending my youngest off to his first day of school and experiencing how stressful I felt I came up with the film idea. My youngest son Ronnie is in it, he is the voiceover for my son in the film Michael. Michael is my oldest son and by naming the character Michael I was able to incorporate both my boys into the film. I love having hidden meanings in the films I create. I also love hearing people laugh when they watch my comedy films.
The Kids Are Alright is currently in the film festival circuit and has so far won a best comedy award!

Stacy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a child I used to set up my father’s VHS recorder and I would act in front of the camera pretending to be in movies. I would also perform stage plays for my neighbors. When I got older, after high school I was convinced it was too high of a goal to achieve so I decided to do something else I loved, which is helping people. I became a Nurse Practitioner and worked for many years between patient care and Nurse Management. In 2015 I had open heart surgery to correct a congenital heart defect and it was at this time I decided if I made it through the ordeal and could live my life the way I wanted that I would finally peruse acting. I did just that. Now, after 22 years in the medical field I am finally hanging up my stethoscope for good and focused on writing, acting and directing full time.
I am now completely focused on producing via my production company Odelia Beck Productions, many films in the upcoming years. I named my production company after my late beloved Grandmother Odelia Beck, who I was very close to. I always told myself if I had a girl I would name her after my Grandma, but since I only had boys I decided to name my company after her.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The film industry is dominated by men. In 2024 in the top 250 films females accounted for only 16% of directors, 20% of writers. 20% of editors, 27% of producers and 12% of cinematographers. OUR stories are not being told by us. My goal is to tell stories from a female point of view, to tell OUR REAL stories. This is why I write my own screenplays and I try to hire mostly female crew. I love men and they do an amazing job, but it’s our turn to shine!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2022 I got COVID and it caused me to go into respiratory failure. I spent a week in the ICU and a month in the hospital. It damaged my lungs so badly that for the 1 years after that when I got influenza-A it caused me to go into respiratory failure and I was hospitalized for weeks at a time. It caused me to pause acting and producing for some time. To keep myself motivated and to continue to chase my goals I dove into writing. It was during this time of hardship that I wrote two feature screenplays and started writing my autobiography.
It was this that finally made me make the decision to leave the medical field for good, but it has given me the opportunity to realize my dream of filmmaking full time.
There are times life will throw you a curveball, our curveballs when you least expect it and it is during those times that you can find a way to make the most of it or allow the situation to make the most of you. I always fight and choose to find the silver lining in it and make the most of what I’m going though.
I could not have made it through if it weren’t for my amazing support system of my family. My boys Michael and Ronnie and my fiancé Anthony stood by my side and helped and supported me always and certainly when I needed it most. They are my rock and the loves of my life. I am proving to my boys you really can achieve your dreams!
The most important thing is to believe in yourself and never lose your childhood enthusiasm!! Life is wonderful!!
