We were lucky to catch up with Shawna Allard recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Shawna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.

I support Women’s Empowerment through my book sales and with a percentage of my profit I am especially interested in helping impoverished Women begin businesses so they can support their families.
The principle of ” give a woman a fish and she can eat for today. Teach her how to fish and she can eat for a lifetime ”
This is a micro loan to get her started in business. The recipient pays back the loan. The money once repaid is loaned to another woman.
I began my business with $45 and did not need a microloan to begin my business. Many impoverished women however cannot even feed their family let alone save $100 to begin a business.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I was blessed to always know that my passion was to teach. I was born with the gift of intuition and love of all that is spiritual. I did not know that these two passions would unite into a very special calling until I was in my early thirties. A voice inside of me told me to help and to serve God and others through “Telegraphing” !! I was shocked to hear a voice so clearly in my head and also the word telegraphing. As I asked who is this and what do you want me to work for the phone company? The voice of spirit said “Who did you call?” ( I was in prayer to God asking for guidance) and then Spirit said ” Not the phone company. We can speak through you to help others if you will allow it.” I felt a profound loving light pour through me and I knew the reason I was born was to fulfill this calling to be a psychic counselor. I have been help all kinds of people to access their deepest concerns and desires for over 33 years as a professional psychic. I am an award winning and best selling author of the book KNOWING
As well as being known as San Diego’s best psychic I offer energy clearing, hands on healing and hypnotherapy.
I am blessed to have 3 grown children and a 4 year old grandson with my husband and soul mate.
We love camping, gardening, the beach and live music.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

My cofounder and partner is actually also my mentor and the one I thank for all of my blessings, gifts on intuition and healing abilities. I call this source God and was calling upon Source or Spirit constantly to guide me through a very difficult time in my life. I was pregnant and my husband was not interested in being a family man. My father and grandfather were angry and disowning me because of my resurfacing memories of being molested. I was unemployed and life was a turmoil of change. A week or two into my pregnancy I was visited by the Holy Spirit. A light so bright and intense that I could not move. I was consumed with a loving presence that permeated my being beyond any earthly love I have ever known. I was literally bathed in the most wonderful presence of love and light. I have a bit of reluctance to admit that I was scared, but I was scared and overwhelmed. It is too intimate to share what the Angel said at this time, but I must say that it changed my life and my level of intuition forever more.
I had a daily practice of meditation and prayer at 11:30 a.m. while my babies were napping.
One day Spirit said get tarot cards. I felt so very foolish going into a store and asking to buy tarot cards. I was imagining someone saying “what qualifications do you have?” or “who do you think you are buying those?” or ” what makes you think you have any right to those?” There were three choices of tarot cards. I chose the deck that felt right and I also purchased a book that would explain how to lay out the cards, as well as the meaning of each card.
During my usual meditation and spiritual time I sat down to study my book. First the phone rang, and then the door bell, and then the door bell rang again and again. My dog got out and then my baby woke up from an unusually short nap. A neighbor needed my help with something, and my study time was ruined. I sat down frustrated and just asked, “What? Why?” Spirit answered: “Do not study…just read…it is just a tool for practice…no rules.” I proceeded to shuffle and practice for a few days. While I was shuffling the cards, I was also praying, and breathing very deeply. My eyes were closed and focused on the third eye. Soon I found that even in preparation for reading the cards a shift was happening within me. I would enter a trance and sometime later I would awaken to find cards spilled to my lap and the floor. I felt like I knew a bunch of information but it was now just out of reach, as if a dream I couldn’t quite recall.
Spirit said: “Automatic Writing” so I bought a spiral notebook and kept a daily journal of anything Spirit would say to me during meditation or my trance state. I would write, or scribble really, so as not to leave the trance. After my meditation was over I would read the words I had written. I was actually amazed at how wise and intuitive they seemed to be. I was instructed to write anything that felt directed to me from Spirit and not to judge or censor in any way.
One day I asked, “Dear God, what would you have me do? How can I best serve thy will, while being a good mother and providing for my children? I certainly did not expect the answer to be…
“Telegraphing”
I grew up with intuitive knowing. This time it was not an intuitive knowing, but rather a booming voice inside of my head and there was no doubt about it! It was loud enough that I felt the neighbors could hear it.
I freaked out! I grabbed the baby monitor and ran around and around the exterior of my home with the baby monitor clutched to my breast. I ran while thinking, “What just happened in there?” I ran until I was exhausted and calm enough to realize I had been praying and asked God for guidance.
I sat to meditate again and asked, or rather demanded, “Who is this?”
The answer came as a huge movement of love through my entire body as I had only experienced before when visited by The Holy Spirit during my second pregnancy. The answer was simply: “Who did you call?” I knew in the depths of my soul that I was in God’s hands. I asked, “Telegraphing? Really? Like should I work for the phone company?” The answer came immediately.
“No! Telegraphing: the process of communicating from one source to another through a conduit. WE CAN SPEAK THROUGH YOU IF YOU WILL ALLOW IT!”
Some days passed as I digested this new reality. I agreed and said to Spirit, “Please help me to trust my intuition and give me clarity that this is all real. I don’t doubt you, but I very much doubt myself at this moment.”
Below are some examples of just a few of the strange things I would be writing down during my sessions with Divine. Once I wrote the strangest word that meant nothing to me as I phonetically scrawled it out. The word turned out to be the name of the prescription I would be picking up for my mother in-law later that day.
Divine would say “light bulb” and sure enough a light bulb would blow as I turned on the bathroom light just moments later.
A great example was the day Divine said, “Your husband will purchase a new red car today.” My thought was that he surely better not. And besides, I thought, it wouldn’t even be possible. There are no dealerships in Vail, Colorado; he would have to travel through the snowy mountain roads for over two hours to Denver, and he is working today, and we have NEVER talked at all about this!! A few hours later he arrived in our driveway with a brand new apple red Subaru.
I continued to meditate at 11:30 a.m. every day until the babies woke from their naps. I also continued to receive from Spirit, lessons, guidance, and assurance of this intuitive accountability.
One afternoon, much to my amazement, I received a “Download” of information for my brother who lived in California. I had not told him, or anyone for that matter, what was going on. I felt very awkward about this information. I was sure I would be judged, and not in a good way. Still, I had information that did not belong to me. It came through me in service for another person. If I kept the information that was meant for someone else, I would be wrong. If I didn’t share it then I felt out of order for possessing knowledge that belonged to someone else. It felt somewhat like finding an item of value and wanting to return it, but wondering if you would be then accused of stealing it.
I did call my brother and share the information with him. He was very understanding and even shared some of his experiences where his own intuition had helped him. He was grateful for the reading, saying that it was accurate, pertinent, and useful for exactly what he was dealing with.
The following day he asked me if a secretary downstairs from his office could give me a call. Shortly after that I read for the secretary’s mother and my sister-in-law as well. Word got around, and I began doing readings nation wide over the phone.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Publicity without a doubt. I had been nearly 4 years of doing readings for clients who found me through word of mouth. My clientele was continually building but I still had to supplement my income as an accountant. I saw an article in the Orange Count Register featuring a local small business. They asked you to contact the paper if you had a unique or interesting job and would like to be interviewed. I asked and they chose me. I did not know my article had been chosen for publishing over Memorial Day weekend but at 7:30 on Saturday morning my phone began to ring. I dropped all plans for the weekend to answer calls and do readings for 3 solid days.
This article very much built up my clientele so I called all the local small publications and offered them a story. Two more articles came out.
I joined Toastmasters and learned to speak in front of an audience. I then contacted libraries, book stores, and places that would allow me to offer a presentation or class. I quickly became the Orange County expert in my field.
Today Facebook and Instagram offer an opportunity to publish material about yourself and draw attention to your work. It isn’t really publicity but it’s free and gets the word out so it is close. I know I can gain a lot of clients this way and in today’s business world it is important but I don’t enjoy these formats. Spirit guides me to do what I love and not in an effort to attract business. I occasionally do some social media. I do enjoy making YouTube videos as teaching and sharing tool.
I have been serving others with my gifts of intuition for over 33 years now. I have read for over 10,000 clients who return when they need assistance I am always grateful to the many clients that refer family and friends to me and I find that my schedule is always full.
