Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Kelehan.
Hi Dylan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a musician who started playing at age 10. I never sought out to play music or do music as a career, it just kind of happened.
At aged 16 i figured out that I was pretty good at it and decided to take it more seriously.
At age 18 i decided to go to school for audio production and realized again that I was pretty good.
At age 20 I decided to try to go pro and have been trying/succeeding/failing/adapting since then.
I currently focus on my amazing wife and kids, while owning the rock shop in nyack, and performing with Live and Unplugged and Wish We Were Floyd.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has never been smooth. It has always been a rough road. However that’s always the fun part. Supporting a family as a musician has always been the most difficult part. The choices one has to make as a musician with a family aren’t the same as one who doesn’t. I wouldn’t change a thing.
The hardest hurdle was the pandemic. I had finally got into a band that was successful in 2018. We made plenty of $ and toured around the United States until March of 2020. That ended my stint with the group and made my life much harder. I was no longer permitted to earn a living as a performer.
However that’s always lead to me opening the rock shop in nyack and has made my life more stable in the long run..
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I perform, write music, and I run a music store. I’m known for being a dynamic performer with a great vocal range, and excellent guitar and bass skills. I’m known for being silly, and never taking myself too seriously and being as present as possible.
My business is known as being fair and always looking out for what the right thing to do is.
I’m proud of being able to support myself and my family with music.
I think what sets me apart is adaptation.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see a lot of fun over the next 5-10 years. I’ll adapt to whatever needs adaptation.
