Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Carter.
Leah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2020, I was unexpectedly laid off from my corporate role during COVID. I decided to not apply for full time jobs anymore as I started to take more portraits with friends and family. I always say I broke out of my corporate box and began taking on lots of creative work that really sparked my passion for this career. As I evolved as a small business owner, I decided to branch out into couples, engagements and eventually weddings and elopements. As I grew, I decided to start a studio space in 2022 that now serves as a space for me to do brand sessions with local small business owners, as well as a shared space for the community. Other photographers and creatives rent my studio hourly for their own work! As I enter into my 5th year of being a full time photographer, I mainly am a brand and wedding photographer and studio owner!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any small business owner knows it comes with its ups and downs, but that’s a part of the process! My business has evolved so much in the past few years. I’m grateful to be at a place in my career where I’m able to take on the work that makes me most excited and truly follow my passion!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in working with local small business owners and fellow entrepreneurs for brand sessions, I also love helping to plan and photograph surprise proposals, usually on the beautiful coast of Maine! Lastly, I specialize in weddings and elopements all over New England! I’m most proud of my growth in my work in these particular niches.
One of the things that sets me apart from others is my knowledge in planning and photographing surprise proposals, especially at Portland Head Light in Maine! There’s a significant amount of planning that goes into a successful surprise proposal, especially when the clients are from out of state. I love working with couples during these exciting milestone moments!
