Today we’d like to introduce you to Rukshana Triem.
Hi Rukshana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Rewriting Her Story: A Journey of Resilience and Empowerment
Rukshana’s , the journey to where she is today was anything but easy. Born in Mozambique, a country rich in culture but marred by political instability and poverty, she faced challenges at an early age. Forced to flee with her family as a refugee, she learned resilience, faith, and resourcefulness in the face of uncertainty.
Her immigration to a new country marked the start of another uphill battle—navigating a new culture, learning a new language, and fighting to belong. Yet, these struggles became the foundation for her strength and determination to build a better future.
Her passion for helping others took root when she became a Family Advocate at Lutheran Community Services. In this role, she worked with families navigating hardships, helping them find their voices and rebuild their lives. She recalls the transformative power of simply being heard and supported. But in 2016, she made a bold decision to leave her job and pursue something even bigger.
“I wanted to create something that empowered women not just to survive but to thrive,” she explains. And so began her entrepreneurial journey—a path filled with challenges, reinvention, and countless lessons.
Today, Rukshana is the founder of the Firmina Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to education in Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia. She also leads the Confidence Speakers Catalyst program, where she teaches women to build confidence in public speaking and leadership. She recently released her 2nd book called Never Leave the playground an adults guide to to creating their best life.
Through her work by taking women in Nature for retreats and coaching she has inspired countless women to rewrite their stories, discover their passions, and turn their struggles into strengths.
Her message is clear: “Your story matters. Your struggles are the foundation of your strength. And it’s never too late to rewrite your story.”
As a wife, mother of three former refugee, and advocate, Rukshana] is a living testament to the power of resilience and the importance of uplifting others. Her journey is a reminder that when women support each other, incredible things happen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Adapting to living in a new country and cultural norms in USA. Working harder than most because I had to prove myself I need to better life since there is no going back. Learning the rhythm of language and how to communicate across barriers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
