Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Vine Gollier.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My career path has been anything but linear, but every twist and turn has led me to where I am today—running my own digital marketing agency, Intertwined Digital Marketing.
I started strong in my career, quickly becoming a nonprofit digital marketing manager by age 25. However, the demands of the job quickly led to burnout, and I realized I needed to find a niche that was both fulfilling and sustainable. During a career move to Buffalo, NY, I discovered SEO—a field that fascinated me with its ‘behind-the-scenes’ mechanics of how websites rank on Google. I couldn’t stop talking about it.
Life, of course, had more curveballs in store. After relocating a few more times, delving into nonprofit digital marketing once again, and even stepping away to care for my dad during his illness, I found myself coming back to SEO. It was a skill that not only allowed me to work remotely but also provided a sense of stability during uncertain times.
Over the years, I honed my SEO expertise, working for various agencies and mastering the craft. In May 2023, I fully embraced my passion for SEO and launched Intertwined Digital Marketing to help small businesses and nonprofits grow their online presence with proven strategies.
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been rewarding. Today I totally own my role as an entrepreneur and SEO expert. It’s been incredible to finally feel confident in the career I’ve built and to help others succeed along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a small business as a one-person team is definitely challenging because you’re wearing all the hats. I’m marketing my business, working on my clients’ projects, and also handling business development tasks. Not to mention accounting and administrative work!
The toughest part of starting a service-based business has definitely been client acquisition though. I know I’m good at what I do—SEO—and I know my services can help small businesses, but convincing potential clients to take the leap and start working together has been a challenge. It’s taken a lot of practice to refine my sales pitch, develop compelling case studies, gain client reviews, and fine-tune my service packages.
Now, I can confidently say it’s starting to pay off. At the end of the day, it’s all about networking, meeting people, and being confident in your offering while communicating its value effectively. It was a struggle at first, but I’m proud to say I’m getting the hang of the business side of things!
We’ve been impressed with Intertwined Digital Marketing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Intertwined Digital Marketing is an SEO company dedicated to providing affordable and ethical SEO services to small businesses. We specialize in a wide range of SEO solutions, including on-page SEO, technical SEO, review generation, Google Business Profile and local directory management, link building, and analytics/reporting.
What truly sets us apart in a crowded industry is our commitment to creating custom strategies for each client. While many agencies rely on cookie-cutter approaches—offering fixed packages like “one page optimized per month” or “____ keywords per month”—we tailor every solution to meet the unique needs and goals of our clients. Our personalized approach ensures that the strategies we implement make sense for your business and drive real results.
With a mission to deliver “affordable and ethical SEO,” we’re focused on helping small businesses grow their online presence without breaking the bank. Unlike some agencies that overcharge and underdeliver, we pride ourselves on transparency and accountability. Each month, our clients receive a detailed recap of everything we worked on, along with a report and custom dashboard summarizing their results. Whether traffic is up or down, our clients always know exactly what’s happening and why.
Because education is so important to us, we also host an “SEO Office Hours” session each month where we answer attendees’ questions about SEO, websites, and digital marketing.
Another key difference is the personalized service you receive when working with Intertwined. Unlike larger agencies where you might get passed from one account manager to another, with us, you have direct access to your SEO expert (me!) every step of the way. I’ll never gatekeep strategies—every action we take is explained in detail, empowering you to understand the “why” behind what we’re doing.
