Today we’d like to introduce you to Qian Zhong.
Hi Qian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with an intense passion, and it was through relentless effort and unwavering confidence in myself that I achieved what I have today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No path is easy, at least in my view. Along the way, we inevitably encounter various challenges. For instance, in entrepreneurship, issues like managing finances and planning for future growth often leave me feeling anxious and uneasy. The same applies to artistic creation—staying true to my original intentions without being swayed or tempted by external influences is a constant struggle.
There have been countless moments when I wanted to give up, but I chose to persist and trust in the decisions I made. Like a determined bull charging forward, I believe that as long as I keep moving, I will eventually reach my destination. To me, setbacks and difficulties are not obstacles but stepping stones that make me stronger.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist currently pursuing an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in the UK. At the same time, I am also an entrepreneur, running a cultural communication company in China. My artistic practice primarily focuses on painting, including oil painting and murals.
In my series of oil paintings, I use metaphors and symbols to document the struggles contemporary women face. This body of work deepens my exploration of female identity and desire while conveying a sense of repression and solitude. On the other hand, my mural projects have provided opportunities to connect more deeply with communities and individuals. Unlike my introspective focus in painting, my mural work centers on our shared living environment, prompting me to reconsider the broader role of art and its potential impact.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Good luck is an important factor on the path to success, but effort is equally essential. I believe that the harder you work, the luckier you become.
