Today we’d like to introduce you to Dareel Sco.
Hi Dareel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out very raw meaning little to no fans and little to no experience when it came to recording as well as performing live. I forced myself as often as I could attending open mics and every recording studio I could find from Virginia Beach to Richmond. After years of practice I now have no problem performing live or recording.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This road has been as rocky as it gets. Us independent artists have to deal with everything on our own while mainstream artists have organizational systems around them. instances that are the hardest to deal with are the scams and illegitimate businesses that we encounter. Us independent artists lose a lot of money over fake opportunities. That’s where a lot of artists loose their drive and passion. We already have to scrape up change for studio time, music videos etc. Scammers really make the road to success rough.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a rap artist I try my best to keep the essence of hip hop included somehow.. my lyrics, my style of promoting as well as my stage presence, represents hip hop to the fullest. I learned from the old school. My father grew up in New York City when rap was taking over. He tells me classic stories about jams in the parks ( block parties) fly gear and how hip hop brought hope to communities. As an entrepreneur I’m more of a creative thinker. Turing ideas into reality. I am curator of talent. I love to include talented people in our live entertainment events. That’s is what I’m most proud of. Giving talented people another opportunity to shine along side of me. I’m huge on partnership.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My main supporters are from fluvanna County, VA. Shores Rd. Route 640 to be exact. They helped me get started by simply supporting me when no other group of people would. LuvFirst is a movement that we imagined but fluvanna County Virginia has turned it into a reality. They are responsible for my first full length album. I had to sell 100 mixtapes to fund my first album. With the support of fluvanna county I was able to fund it in a little under a year’s time. Now fluvanna and LuvFirst are one movement. Working together to spread our purpose. We all serve as mentors for one another at times. Everyone has a piece of the puzzle.
