Today we’d like to introduce you to Del Kary.

Del, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I started filmmaking back in 1996 with my first feature, titled ‘Video Psycho’. After taking a long break from filming movies due to my mother developing dementia and becoming her caregiver, I re-entered the entertainment field once again in 2021. ‘Video Psycho’ was re-released on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming for the first time in 25 years and I completed my next film, ‘Cheater, Cheater’, which had a theatrical premiere in September of 2024 and is now out on DVD and streaming services nationwide.
My next projects for 2025 include a short film titled ‘If We Are Caught’ and two feature length films in which I produced and acted in titled ‘Longshot Danny’ and ‘Incipient’, as well as writing the sequel to ‘Cheater, Cheater’.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Definitely not easy. Independent film makers always have a tough road ahead when producing a project. Whether it be funding, equipment, talent, or crew, there are always many hurdles to jump through.
But that’s part of the fun of independent film making… and of being a film producer. Finding ways to over come those hurdles and making the vision come to life. Thinking and planning for weeks in advance and the ability to go with the flow and change things up at the last minute.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Being an independent filmmaker, I wear many different hats. My first love is directing. Taking the written word and bringing it to life visually is the best! My second love is editing. Putting all the pieces together and telling a cohesive story that flows well is both challenging and rewarding.
I’ve also wore a Producers hat, and though it is probably the hardest job, it is also rewarding when everything falls into place.
I’m mostly known for movies in the horror/suspense genre and those films are what I’m most proud of… particularly my latest film, ‘Cheater, Cheater’. Based off the book of the same title by author Scott Donnelly, the project took nearly two years to complete and was a labor of love as it was the first film I directed since 1999.

Any big plans?

I became partners with Tale2Studios, and we have many projects that are in the works…
I’m especially excited for two features that we have coming up.
‘Longshot Danny’ is a modern day western/thriller in which I served as Producer and also have a small cameo role in and will be broadcasted on the FOX network later in 2025.
Another feature, titled ‘Incipient’, will begin filming in April of 2025. I also served as Producer and have a small role in it as well. The story is amazing, written by Josh Hodgins, and will definitely have some surprises in store for the audience!
