We recently connected with Aurore Brassinne and have shared our conversation below.
Aurore, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Sitting in front of the rising sun, I watch as the sky turns from deep blue to soft pink and golden hues. The world feels still, untouched, pure. This moment, called aurore in French, is also my name. It’s as if my parents knew it would be my calling even before I was born. Just like the dawn, I’ve always been drawn to quiet beauty, to the elegance of nature, and to the feeling of renewal.
Fashion has always been a way to express myself, but as I grew older, I felt increasingly disconnected from my clothes. The fast-paced world of fashion made me feel rushed, and detached from both me and the earth. I longed for something different – clothing that reflects who I am and my values.
Aurore Being was born from this deep calling to reconnect people to themselves, others, and Mother Earth. I now help women reveal their natural beauty through clothing that feels feminine, beautiful, and in harmony with the earth.
My path to this mission was shaped by many moments—a childhood spent in the Luxembourgish countryside, where nature was part of every season of my life, the shock of watching The True Cost documentary just as I was planning to study fashion, and the challenge of spending six months without buying anything new.
What truly shaped my values were my parents’ teachings and immersing myself in the wisdom of different philosophies—Buddhism, shamanism, and yoga—all of which share a core message: to lead with the heart and honor life in all its forms.
The puzzle pieces all came together in my career when the short course “Fashion Values: Nature” by the London College of Fashion deepened my understanding of fashion’s sacred relationship with the earth. Nature is the source of everything that exists. It has guided the way I create, design, and live.
Over time, I’ve realized how much Aurore Being’s world is shaped by my grandmother’s quiet elegance and discerning eye for quality. One of them, who passed two years ago, took me to art galleries and on window-shopping strolls and gifted me beautiful pieces I’ve only come to fully appreciate now. My other grandmother would show me antique treasures from her attic, talk about sewing, and share stories woven into each object. Their timeless grace and gentle strength guide my hands as I craft what is becoming the Aurore Being signature.
As a romantic at heart, a dancer, and an artist, I see clothing as more than fabric—it’s an intimate expression of who we are. With Aurore Being, I’m not just designing garments; I’m offering an experience—one that brings women closer to their inner voice, allowing them to feel at peace and beautiful in what they wear.
The rise of slow fashion is a new dawn—one that honors nature, craftsmanship, and the beauty of living in harmony with the world around us. And with Aurore Being, I hope to help illuminate that path.
Aurore, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming a florist, a schoolteacher, then a wedding planner. As a young woman, I felt called to study fashion design, but a part of me pushed it away at the same time. Even after completing my degree at Esmod Lyon and earning a master’s in sustainable fashion management in Switzerland, I felt torn between fashion and wellbeing—unsure how they could coexist. Yet, even when I resisted it, fashion remained a part of me.
It was only after becoming a certified Personal Stylist through the London College of Style that everything started to align. Dressing women in a way that enhances their natural beauty felt like the missing piece. Designing clothing and offering personal styling now go hand in hand—they complement each other and reflect a deeper vision.
Aurore Being is where slow fashion, beauty, care, and self-expression gently intertwine—with sustainability at the heart. A quiet vision that’s been growing within me for years is now blooming into life.
Our collections are crafted from natural fibers and non-toxic dyes, blending femininity with pure comfort. But my work goes beyond clothing. I also offer personal styling—helping women curate a wardrobe that reflects who they are, uncover their unique color palettes and silhouettes, and shop consciously from a selection of over 100 sustainable brands.
As I navigated the world of sustainable fashion, I realized that many beautiful, intentional pieces already existed. I didn’t need to create an entire wardrobe with Aurore Being; instead, I felt called to highlight these incredible brands and share them with the world.
What sets Aurore Being apart is its philosophy. In a world overwhelmed by fast fashion, we slow things down. Every piece is designed with intention, and every styling session is a journey of self-discovery. It’s not just about dressing beautifully—it’s about feeling at peace and beautiful in what you wear because you honor your body and the earth.
Right now, I’m preparing to launch two collections close to my heart: The Upcycling Line, a tribute to my grandmothers and the women who came before me, created from vintage scarves, skirts, and fabrics I inherited, and Pasión Por La Mar, a summer collection inspired by the sea, the warmth of the sun, and the intoxicating beauty of hibiscus flowers. These will be available for pre-order soon, and I invite you to follow along and sign up for our newsletter to be the first to shop these collections.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
When I started, I understood the creative process of fashion design but quickly realized that manufacturing was a whole different world. I didn’t enjoy creating technical sheets or patternmaking, and I wanted to work with experts who could refine my designs into high-quality garments.
Finding the right manufacturers, especially ethical and sustainable ones with low MOQs (minimum order quantities), was a challenge. I’ve worked with different partners over time, each teaching me valuable lessons:
• The Soft Nature was developed in Lyon, France, inspired by my roots, Luxembourg’s lush landscapes.
• The Upcycling Line is brought to life by Ponte de Ponto in Portugal, working with artisans skilled in repurposing textiles.
• Pasión Por La Mar took me all the way to Bali, Indonesia, where I found the perfect manufacturer to bring my sun-soaked designs to life.
Not everything goes according to plan in manufacturing. I once spent six months developing a collection, only to have the factory close down, forcing me to start over from scratch. That’s when I decided to be bold—I packed my bags and flew to Bali to find a new path forward.
The biggest lessons I’ve learned? Resilience is key. Communication with manufacturers needs to be crystal clear, and I always ask them to summarize our agreements in their own words to ensure nothing gets lost in translation. Most importantly, I remind myself with every prototype: Would I, Aurore, wear this? If the answer isn’t a clear yes, I refine it until it feels right.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely. Many resources have influenced my perspective on sustainability, entrepreneurship, and personal styling:
• The True Cost (Documentary) – This film was a turning point for me. It exposes the dark reality of fast fashion, making it impossible to ignore the need for change. A must-watch!
• Fashion Values: Nature (Course) – This course deepened my understanding of fashion’s interconnectedness with nature.
• Wear It Well by Allison Bornstein spoke right from my heart – this book solidified my belief that styling is not just about aesthetics, but a ritual of self-care, where fashion and wellbeing are deeply entwined.
• Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard – Written by Patagonia’s founder, this book is a masterclass in building a value-driven business. One day, when I grow the Aurore Being team, I will apply the same principles of ethical leadership and work-life balance.
These resources have shaped my approach and the way I run Aurore Being. Fashion is not just about trends—it’s about making choices that reflect the love we hold for ourselves, others, and the earth.
