We recently connected with Holly Overcashier and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Holly, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
One of the things that sets our brand apart—especially when it comes to our sea moss—is how deeply personal and intentional we are with the sourcing process. We don’t just buy bulk sea moss from a random supplier like many companies in the industry. We’ve built direct relationships with islanders who hand-harvest Wildcrafted sea moss in the pristine waters of St. Lucia.
We’ve been to the island and personally met the harvesters, and seen the process firsthand. We know their names, we know their families, and we value their work as stewards of the land and sea. This isn’t just a transaction to us—it’s a partnership rooted in trust, respect, and shared values around sustainability and integrity.
Because of this, the quality of our sea moss is unmatched—you can see it in the vibrant color, feel it in the texture, and taste the difference. It’s never pool-grown, never chemically treated, and never rushed. It’s harvested with care, dried in the sun naturally, and shipped directly to us—no middlemen, no shortcuts.
One story that always sticks with me is the first time we got on a boat with one of the Islanders and watched him gently gather the sea moss from the ocean bed. He talked about how the ocean provides when it’s treated with respect. That moment marked a huge shift in how we viewed this product—it wasn’t just about offering the best sea moss to our customers; it’s also about honoring the process, the people, and the planet.
When our customers say they’ve “never had sea moss like this before,” we smile—because we know it’s true. And we know it’s because of the way we choose to do business: different, intentional, and personal.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there! I’m Holly Renee, founder of Elderwise Organics—a company that was truly born out of passion, prayer, and a desire to help families live healthier, more vibrant lives. I started this journey nearly a decade ago with a baby on my hip, a toddler at my feet, and a fire in my heart to do things differently. I didn’t have a business degree or a big financial backer—I had a kitchen, a bunch of mason jars, a hard work ethic and an incredible partner (my husband.)
What started as me making elderberry syrup for my own family quickly grew into something I never expected: a thriving, debt-free superfoods company serving families all across the country. We now offer high-quality, clean, and intentional products like sea moss, elderberry syrup kits, ceremonial grade matcha tea, mushroom coffee, vegan protein powders, and more—all packed by hand in our facility, by our amazing team, and always with integrity.
We have become a trusted name in superfoods by doing things differently—on purpose. From personally sourcing our wildcrafted sea moss from island harvesters we know and trust, to traveling to Japan to hand-select the purest matcha from small farms, we go the extra mile—literally—so you can feel confident about what you’re putting in your body. Every product we offer is crafted with care, backed by integrity, and designed to nourish your family the way nature intended.
We solve a very real problem that so many families face: navigating the world of health products that are either overpriced, confusing, full of junk, or made with profit as the priority. At Elderwise, we keep it simple, honest, and effective. Our goal is to provide pure, powerful nourishment that supports immune health, energy, digestion, and vitality—without making it complicated.
What I’m most proud of? We have built this company together, as a family, with our kids by our side. That we stayed true to our values. That we grew slow and steady, choosing purpose over pressure. And that God gets the glory for every step of the journey.
If there’s one thing I want potential customers, clients, or friends to know, it’s this: Elderwise Organics is more than just a brand—it’s a trusted superfoods company rooted in purpose and passion. We believe in choosing a path of wellness that’s grounded in integrity, simplicity, and intention. Every product we offer is thoughtfully crafted to support your health journey—nourishing your body, uplifting your family, and aligning with the values that matter most. We’re honored to be part of your daily rhythm, one trusted superfood at a time.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what really helped us build a strong reputation in our market was the way we’ve always led with integrity, consistency, and care—both personally and professionally. Before Elderwise Organics ever became a company, we were already known in our community as a family who lived with purpose. People knew us as trustworthy, dependable, and health-minded. We were the ones making elderberry syrup for our friends, helping others read ingredient labels, and sharing what we were learning about holistic living—not to sell something, but because we genuinely wanted to help others feel better and live well.
So when we launched the business—small and simple, right out of our kitchen—that same reputation followed. Our customers knew that the same high standards we held in our personal life were now being poured into every product we made. We didn’t just talk about clean ingredients, transparency, or excellence—we lived it. And they could feel that.
We took the time to answer questions, educate, pray for people, and serve with a heart that truly cared. We didn’t grow because of perfect marketing—we grew because people could trust us. And that trust was built by showing up again and again with products that worked, values that didn’t shift, and a mission that stayed steady, even as we scaled.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the most defining seasons of my life—and the one that planted the earliest seeds for Elderwise Organics—started when I was just a child. I went through four knee surgeries in my adolescent years. And while that was already a lot to walk through, especially at a young age, at age 22, I had three more vascular knee surgeries and a heart surgery—all within three months.
I remember sitting with the weight of what the doctors told me—that I’d likely live a sedentary life, that my body couldn’t handle much beyond the basics. But deep down, I didn’t want to settle for that. I had dreams of having a family and traveling the world, I couldn’t live with those limitations.
I began learning about the body’s God-given ability to heal—especially when it’s supported holistically. I leaned into whole food centered nutrition, natural remedies, intentional movement and deep prayer and little by little, I began to heal.
One year later, I crossed the finish line of my first half marathon—a moment I still get emotional thinking about. That moment was more than a personal victory—it was a declaration that healing is possible.
Since then, I’ve run several long distance races and countless 5Ks, many of them with my kids by my side. Living in the freedom that comes when we truly support and steward our bodies well.
That season not only changed my health—it shaped my purpose. It showed me just how powerful it is when we take ownership of our wellness. And that’s really what sparked my passion for holistic living and eventually led to the heart behind Elderwise Organics.
The resilience I built in that time has stayed with me—not just physically, but in every part of life, including business. I carried it with me into entrepreneurship: learning to be patient, to trust the process, to stay grounded in my values, and to move forward with purpose, even when it’s hard.
