We were lucky to catch up with Tim Dalton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tim, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Everything begins with an idea! It’s July 2020. I’m stuck in the house due to COVID lockdown and the ongoing pandemic. While scrolling through Instagram, an idea struck me. Earlier that year, I had purchased my second Dodge Charger Scat Pack, and I couldn’t wait to cruise and hang out that summer with fellow car enthusiasts to create content. However, the pandemic had put a hold on those plans. With a passion for cars, especially Dodge, I brainstormed on how I can create content while stuck at home. Then, I see Dodge make the announcement about the all-new 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. That’s when the idea hit me—to create a page dedicated to all-new exclusive content about this powerful 710-horsepower rare SUV. In 2020, the car culture was experiencing a surge in online engagement, particularly with car brands like Dodge. The Hellcat Durango, being a rare and exciting model, made for perfect content at a time when car enthusiasts were actively looking for content about the Hellcat Durango. By combining my passion for the Hellcat Durango with a strategy that involved consistency, creating captivating content, leveraging Instagram features to reach those interested, I built an impressive following of over 436k followers. From the start, my followers knew they were visiting the page for exclusive content about the new Hellcat. Over the past five years, @HellcatDurango has become one of the largest Dodge-focused Instagram pages!

Tim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Since childhood, I’ve always been passionate about cars. Growing up, I collected Hot Wheels and raced RC cars, and that passion only grew with time. My entire life revolves around cars. I enjoy the excitement of attending car events, such as racetracks and auto shows. In Michigan, the Woodward Dream Cruise is a particular favorite, where I get to see other cars and appreciate the creativity and individuality in their design and modifications. Through my platform, I’m thrilled to shine a spotlight on enthusiasts who build and modify their cars to their own unique preferences. Each car has its own story to tell, and I find immense joy in sharing that narrative with others. During this journey, I’ve had numerous proud moments that fueled my motivation. As my account grew, I strategically positioned myself for more opportunities. I actively participated in Dodge-related events to network and connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for cars, particularly Dodge. Early on, one of my most cherished moments was when Dodge’s Official Instagram account began following my page. At that time, I viewed it as a significant achievement, as it demonstrated the positive impact of my content and the recognition of its popularity. In 2024, I then had the opportunity from Dodge to receive a press release vehicle to review and create content. They sent me a Dodge Hornet, an opportunity I was incredibly grateful for. Later, they sent me an actual Hellcat Durango! This achievement surpassed my initial goal of reviewing and creating content for Dodge, solidifying my connection with the brand. However, my most remarkable moment came when Dodge invited me to Arizona for a media event with the brand to test drive the All-New Electric Dodge Charger Daytona! I was thrilled to receive this invitation. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever been a part of. During the trip, I had the privilege to meet many of the key people involved with Dodge’s success, further strengthening the relationship I had created with the brand. Dodge’s decision to invite me to such a prestigious event highlighted the significance of my @HellcatDurango Instagram account within the automotive community. The opportunity to test drive the electric Charger Daytona, a pivotal moment in Dodge’s electrification journey, further solidified their trust in me to represent the brand authentically.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude by thanking everyone who has supported me and continues to support me as my page grows daily! I genuinely appreciate each and every one of you who take time out to tune into my page for engaging content! I’m happy to know people enjoy the content, whether it is to see some exclusive updates in the car industry, or some laughable content to share with friends, I truly appreciate all the support. Social media is an amazing way to connect with people all across the world, and that’s exactly how the page brings people together. It all started with a humble beginning, with zero followers on Instagram, but through determination and hard work, I’ve grown to an impressive 436k followers and counting. Now it’s people all around the world who tune in to view my content. I’ve built my audience by using my platform to unite all car enthusiasts. By maintaining an organic and relatable approach, I’ve created a genuine connection with my followers. When people can relate to your content, they become more invested and engaged. This authenticity has proven to be a powerful tool in building a loyal community. During the launch of the Hellcat Durango, and until this day people know when they visit my page, they will see exclusive content here. This sense of exclusivity has been key in building a strong bond between my audience and my brand. It allows them to share their excitement and enthusiasm with friends and fellow enthusiasts, creating a sense of camaraderie and community. Throughout this journey, I’ve maintained a consistent approach, staying dedicated and authentic to my brand. It’s crucial to prioritize existing connections while also actively seeking new ones. Consistency has been the key factor in my success, and I would strongly advise anyone looking to build an audience to adopt this mindset. Be relatable, share personal experiences, stay committed even on challenging days. Embrace the ups and downs, and be willing to continuously learn and improve. Stay ahead of the curve by identifying emerging trends and finding innovative ways to keep your audience engaged. Remember, all industries are constantly evolving, and staying relevant is essential for long-term success.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When faced with challenges, remember to KEEP GOING! In 2022, I encountered a setback when I lost access to my Instagram account. Despite having 122k followers and a rapidly growing page, I somehow got logged out and couldn’t regain access. During this frustrating period, I reached out to the Instagram tech team, but unfortunately, I received no response. Devastated by the possibility of letting all my hard work go to waste, I felt like giving up. However, the determination within me refused to let me give up. I knew the significance of my work and the progress I had made, and I was determined to find a way to persevere. After much effort, I finally managed to reconnect with the Instagram tech team and regain access to my page. This experience only fueled my passion and relit the spark within me to continue working hard. Remember, any battle you face can be overcome if you maintain faith in yourself and your abilities. I hope my story inspires others to bring their ideas and visions to life.
